Artist History
The Contortionists were formed in late 1999 by Rob Falgiano, ex-singer / songwriter for established Buffalo, NY, group Plaster Sandals (1993-1998). During their tenure, Plaster Sandals released 2 full length CDs and sold more than 2,000 copies in Western New York, Eastern Ohio & Pennsylvania, a figure comparable to that of any mid-level national band for a region this size. The Contortionists Get Sweet For You, the new group's debut 14-song CD, will be released January, 2001, on P22 / Atom Smash Records. (P22's full catalog of releases includes: Futurismo, Rod McKuen, Girlpope, The Waz, Bobo, Doombuggy, and Amazing All My Children Band, among others.)The Contortionists were recently nominated for Best New Original Band at the 2000 Buffalo Music Awards. The group also received 4 nominations for the 2000 WBNY Music Awards in the following categories: Best Pop Rock Band, Best Male Vocalist, Best Songs, and Best Dressed (yes, really). Lead singer Rob Falgiano's old band Plaster Sandals was one of the First Prize Winners in the 1998 Conan O'Brien College Band Search, narrowly missing the Grand Prize of appearing on the show. |

Press Reviews
"…the melodic vocals of British pop merchants Crowded House, Squeeze and XTC." - The Columbus Dispatch"Falgiano's new batch of lyrics attests to his maturation as a songwriter… (he) can be lovable and even comedic." - Sophia Maines, Artvoice "…a voice and dramatic flair that recalls British artists like Morrissey and Style Council's Paul Weller." - Erie Times"…infectiously groovy pop songwriting..." - Toni Ruberto, Buffalo News."Catchy melodic pop which should appeal to fans of uptempo, pop-rockers like the Dave Matthews Band." -Buffalo Beat |
