Artist History
Almost nothing is known about Stanley Screwdriver. He was probably born in the mid-1930's, and he lived in a shotgun shack on the east side of Cincinnati, Ohio. Some said he was a plumber, others said he never worked a day in his life. When he died in 1987, he left no will, and no family came to retrieve his belongings or his skinny cat. A box of reel-to-reel tapes was found in the linen closet, and these made their way into the hands of private collector who wishes to remain anonymous. The selections presented here are but a small fraction of these recordings, which probably date from the mid-1950's, and display a man who possessed great talent for portraying the complete depth, width, and breadth of contemporary American music. |
