Artist History
Mike Stevens is often found playing with musical greats in any genre. For his own recordings, he finds the best there is, and makes each project unique. On the road he is also often found doing solo performances with just his harmonicas, amp and his looping rig.Mike has been recognised for his groundbreaking work in Bluegrass. For his influence in this genre, he was awarded the honour of Kentucky Colonel in 1994. This solidified his place in Bluegrass, as he continues to perform at the Grand Ole Opry with "Jim and Jesse and the Virginia Boys" and other greats. He has boasted the top selling album with "Blowin' Up A Storm" and album of the year with "Harmonica" on Pine Caslte Records. He was retired from the "Entertainer of the Year" category after winning five years consecutively at the Central Canadian Bluegrass awards. In 1998 he finally allowed the world to see the other influences explode out with the release of "Normally Anomaly". This brought together a soulful mix of Blues rock and world influences. As the album goes deeper, it goes way "out there". In 2000, Mike was the subject of a documentary called "Harmonica Crossing." The film, directed by Brian W. White, explores this unique person as an innovative musician, and soulful person. It depicts Mike in his home, as he tries to balance a "normal life" with that of a professional musician. It finds Mike dealing with the death of a close friend, being a father and follows him around Tenessee, as he makes his way to the Grand Ole Opry. |
