Artist History
The origins of the rock quartet now known as Cooper Green can be traced back to 1999, when guitarists/vocalists Marty O'Kane and Dan Cross began playing local clubs and open mics as an acoustic duo. The two eventually recorded a 4-song CD of acoustic originals in the fall of that year, but both knew that their musical vision could not be fully realized unless they went electric. To that end, they were joined by bassist Dave Liston, then of the alternative rock band Brutus Bit Me, and drummer Al Lipesky, formerly of the hardcore group Who By Fire. To some, this might seem like a chaotic mixture of sounds, but the four have been able to weave these diverse musical influences into a seamless sonic fabric they describe as melodic modern rock. Since its debut as a full band in February, 2000, the New Brunswick-based group has gigged regularly throughout the NY/NJ metropolitan area, performing shows at such notable venues as Kenny's Castaways, CB's Gallery, and The Baggot Inn in New York City. In April, the group staged a special live radio performance on WVYC (99.7 FM, York College of Pennsylvania) as part of the station's 52-hour marathon show, which set a new world record for the longest continuous radio broadcast. A few months later, the band participated in a memorial concert for Brian Putman of the alternative rock group Friends of Gordon. In a single night, the benefit show raised over $3,000 for the late musician's favorite charity. Currently, the band is completing work on its first CD, which is scheduled for release in early 2001. |
