Artist description
The nucleus of CHRONIC BLISS is made up of the compositions of
Marianne Perback and Jeff Virgo whose combined experience in the
music business span from the murky, glamorous clubs of New York City
to the Theaters of 42nd St to prime time television and major motion
picture releases all culminating in their primary passion and focus...
CHRONIC BLISS //
CHRONIC BLISS is steeped in the tradition of such pioneers as David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Roxy Music& Pink Floyd and like their influences, they have developed over the course of 3 years, a highly evolved, personal style. Add to this a dash of the funk and a handful of world percussion realized on this record by the likes of Mauro Refosco (Of the Lounge Lizards, David Byrne etc…) and Nowell Haskins (Bernie Worrell, Fun-kin).
All this coupled with a visually dramatic stage show make CHRONIC BLISS a unique trip in the realm of modern music today. //
CHRONIC BLISS --
A darkly sensual, organic and evocative experience, sophisticated, yet commercially viable.

Marianne Perback //
Vocals, Flute, Keyboards, Lyrics, Music, Producer /
Marianne was born in Sweden and has traveled the world gathering experience and impressions that have greatly impacted her artistic view.
She graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston and immediately moved to New York City. In New York, She began doing recording sessions as a backup vocalist lending her talents to a variety of albums as well as performing live in the club scene.
Producing artists was a natural progression for Marianne who is very at home in the recording studio. Her production credits include albums, jingles and soundtracks as well as composing music for television and movies.
Her most recent song placement ("In a Full Circle" Cat King Cool Music, ASCAP) can now be heard on the smash hit TV show, "Grounded For Life." It airs on Fox, Wednesday nights at 8:30 PM.
The primary focus of Marianne's writing, production and vocal talents since 1998 has been CHRONIC BLISS //
JEFF VIRGO //
Bass, Guitar, Percussion, Jaw Harp, Sound Design, Writer and Producer /
Jeff is a native New Yorker who has been an active force in the studio and club scene since the early 80's.
He has backed both the famous and the infamous alike lending his talents as a sideman to a very diverse range of musical adventures, which include too many rock, pop, funk, fusion and experimental projects to mention. Some of the highlights of this being: 5 years as Bassist and Musical Director for VON LMO - recognized as the father of industrial music, Off Broadway and Theater Row Orchestra Pit work, A stint on Capitol Records with 2.5D (where he had the honor of recording and performing with larger-than-life drum giant, Pete Zeldman) A workshop instructor at the prestigious Drummers Collective in NYC for Funk and Odd Time signature classes and recently, recording an album track for Solo Artist (and CHRONIC BLISS background vocalist) Donya Lane which ended up in Disney's feature film, "Double Platinum," starring Diana Ross and Brandy.
In 1998, Jeff hung up his sideman hat (yeah, yeah, he still accepts projects that he enjoys) and has dedicated his bass, production and more recent guitar stylings to CHRONIC BLISS

Blissfully, the track "Holding On" reminds us of Siouxsie and The Banshees.
That alone would be worth the price of admission into Chronic Bliss' new "Box
of Bliss." But there are more reasons to pick up this nine-song set.
When the sweet-voiced Marianne Perback sings "Denying," we can't help wondering where Terri Nunn (Berlin) is today. "Box of Bliss" isn't all its title implies, though. The line "Red like the bleeding skies" opens the song "Waiting for a Sign." Written, of course, before Sept. 11, the song's a sad premonition of that day's attacks and today's events: "Trusting the hand of fate/Fighting with a holy sword ... Eternity - his reward."
If there's a nit to be brought up, it would have to be some of the songs' lengths, one of which stretches out to almost seven minutes (hint for the next record: Brevity is the
foundation of eloquence). That said, the band, led by multi-instrumentalist Jeff
Virgo, has plans to play out soon. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check the group's
Web site in the near future to see when and where. -Kevin Amorim
