Artist description
The Gaffa Cakes are a duo from Cortland, NY, (birthplace of Ronnie James Dio and second incest capital of New York). They concentrate on the more chilled out and somehat eerie side of the music world, but never without a little humour thrown in. These guys are new to Rat Bastard, but they are certainly one to watch. |

Artist History
The Gaffa Cakes... Jim Slater and Sam Malta met in 4th grade, and used to while away their time throwing snowballs and stones at students from the nearby university. In high school, they met DJ 1000, a DJ for the college radio station, after they knocked him in the skull with a stolen cue ball. 1000 got the boys into the thriving Cortland scene, where they met local legends such as DJ Germy, the Chief, and Brian Newman. They began raving with this lot, before getting dissilusioned with the scene and locking themselves up in Sam's bedroom recording crude songs as the Loafers, using as instruments anything they could get their hands on. The rest, as the kids say,I is history. |

Press Reviews
Not so much press reviews as other mp3.com forum members' reviews:
Julie-
"One word...drugs. Mostly the hallucenagenic type. This is downright trippy. I wouldn't change this one a bit." -- tornmusic
"***** I think The Gaffa Cakes are geniuses. They're one of those hidden jems, that we're lucky enough to stumble across every now and then....The atmosphere created by this sent shivers up my spine. I haven't heard anything like it for a long time. The over-processed voice, and other samples and the warped drum loops blended perfectly together.
Very refreshing... very unique... a must have..." ---- THX1138
Chief on the Run-
"The reason I like this is 'cause it's erie. And weird." -- tornmusic
"*** This is a cool piece of electronica, I liked the changes and the parts were cool.... a nice effort"-- Mark McInerney
