Artist History
TACIT BLUE began as an experiment using sound design to explore various ambient spaces. Jim Rogers and Chris Crabtree, then students at Middle Tennessee State University, began assembling a collection of "found sounds" which they manipulated into other-worldly ambiences, the kind you might only hear in rooms of your imagination.According to Chris, "we were not even a group in the beginning. We never intended for anyone to hear what we were doing. We just wanted to experiment with some new ideas and techniques for using music to explore space in new ways." These ideas and techniques include the manipulation of natural sound combined with manipulation of electronic instruments to synthesize new sounds, ambiences and instruments that do not exist in nature. Says Jim, "Our music is about capturing a moment in a kind of musical impressionism. Sometimes we pare down all the layers of a moment. Sometimes we just move freely through them, leading the listener to find the truth in the moment. Music can be a very powerful way to do that." |

Press Reviews
From instrumentalmusic.com----June 1999:Tacit Blue - Electronic Space Music group, Tacit Blue are our featured artist this month. Their music is in the vein of Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach, Michael Stearns, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. It is highly imaginative, well produced and conceived. If you like space music, you'll love Tacit Blue. They have recorded two CD's - "The Crossing" and "Dreamland". Both are highly recommended for their spacy, ethereal, other-worldly quality. Very cool stuff... |
