Press Reviews
"I hope some label will pick this band up. Theyreally show great promise in their music. Comparableto the dark, passionate progressive from Scandinaviaand I also hear some echoes of Van Der GraafGenerator, but on the whole they seem a little moreaccessible. I think it is fair to say we have a newcompetitor with an original sound. All we can hopeis that they can (maybe rerecord and) release thisdemo album. For the time being I advise you to goand have a listen and support this band." (JuriaanHage, more:http://www.wi.leidenuniv.nl/home/jhage/progrock.html) "The band calls themselves Scythe and playsbeautifully soaring classic progressive rock thatoften has a strong Italian prog feel. The band isfar tighter than Powds [The band from which Scytheemerged] was, the stylistic focus is clearer, andthe music is pure magic. The music runs through agamut of emotions and mood swings never settlinginto one groove for very long. If this soundsdisjointed I assure you it is not. The band has astrong sense for going off into different directionsin ways that fit the music well. In summary, whileScythe's music is clearly retro, they make no bonesabout it and the music is exciting and enjoyable.Highly recommended." (Jerry Kranitz, more:http://www.infinet.com/~jkranitz/music/reviews/reviews.html) "Neither the early, experimental FLOYD (i.e. ThePiper At The Gates Of Dawn) nor KING CRIMSON orGROBSCHNITT and consorts are unknowns to these guys.Shurely they do know the early works of PENDRAGON,IQ and DREAM THEATER, nevertheless they are carefulnot to tread too beaten paths. Cool, drivingWATCHTOWER-like instrumental passages (as in theopener Eruption: The Arrow's Point) find theirbalance in spheric 70s-Krautrock passages and in themysterious soundscapes which begin to tower in thesecond half of Am I Really Here?, reanimatingFLOYD's Dogs. No doubt, the regrettably shortinstrumental Elegy tells us: friends of the PATMETHENY GROUP or similary feastful ambient music areat work here. The short Faded could be from the thrillingBozzio/Levin/Stevens-project BLACK LIGHT SYNDROME,mainly because of the jazzy percussion, which -together with the crisp sounding bass - flowsversatile and precise and lays the foundation forthe agile keyboard-intermezzi. In the overlong onestep further, whose second half features a suddensong-structure, Scythe show delicate proficiency bygradually raising dynamics- and volume-level to end14 diversified minutes in pure bombast, whosekeyboards-/guitar-arrangement the Mrs. BANKS andHACKETT would have done in a similar way 25 yearsago."
