Artist History
"A sweetly controlled enigma" according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Michelle Nagy (pronounced Nay-Ghee, as rhymes with Peggy) is known for her intimate and passionate singing. Originally from Blairsville, Pennsylvania, a small town near where the late Jimmy Stewart was born, Michelle started singing at age 5 along with her mother's 8-tracks of Vickie Carr. By age 7, she was making up her own commercial jingles for anything she could find around the house and in 4th grade, she joined the school band as the only female drummer. Boring high school study halls were her piano lessons as she'd sneak to the auditorium to develop what was to become her own self-taught percussive piano style. She went on to study classical voice on scholarship at Carnegie Mellon University where she formed her future A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. M.U.S.I.C. clan. At Point Park College, she continued her study of music while extending her education to include acting, dance, and theater. In addition to her theatrical work, she began dazzling audiences with her own songs. Since graduation, Michelle has been continually working as an entertainer on stage and screen around the country. She has performed in several renowned theaters including the Grand Ole Opry, and her screen credits include the Jonathan Demme film, "Beloved," and a principal role in "The Expert" starring James Brolin & Jeff Speakman. More recently, she has been doing voiceovers and commercial jingles, and has accepted a principal role in a new film, "Dog House." She was the winner of the 1997 Barrymore award (Philadelphia's equivalent of a Tony Award), and she was nominated for a second Barrymore for her contributions as composer and musical director of a major production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." More recently, Michelle has been working on material for her follow-up CD. "For a Little While," a live track that she plans to include on the new project, has been released on the compilation CD for the 1999 NEMO conference. Michelle is a member of BMI, AEA, AFTRA, and SAG. |
