Artist History
4 solo albums since 1988 + 2 Cd's with the band VISIOn and one with ASTRAL GROOVEBIOGRAPHY : Discovered by Mike Varney (Guitar Player) in 1985. After having played with numerous bands in the 80-iesLars released his first album ETERNITY in 1988 in Europe and Japan, followed by NO SURRENDER 1989. Both albums consisted of a mixof vocal and instrumental music in a classic hard rock/metal style. 1991 Lars released his all instrumental "Electric Woodoo" with an American version of the album called "The Exciter".After this Lars formed the band VISION with vocalist Conny Lind (now with Amaze Me)and the debut album Lars Eric Mattsson's VISION (1992) was a success in Japan but the band split up in 1993. In 1995 Lars had a new band ASTRAL GROOVE which was more blues based, with some funkand a new singer Bjorn Lodin (ex-Baltimore) but also this band fell apart and in 1997 VISION was back with a new CD "Till the End of Time". In 1998 came Lars best release this far "OBSESSION"featuring singer Bjorn Lodin again. This new album marks a return to his roots, classic melodic hard rock with great guitars and vocalsand his best songwriting ever. |

Press Reviews
Review by Progression Magazine (Doug Curran)Lars Eric Mattsson: Obsession CD(61:09) Lion Music LMC98012Hoping for another Rainbow album?Look no further, my friend. It's here, courtesy of Lars Eric Mattsson, guitar hero from Finland. His fourth solo release apart from the band Vision, Obsession is filled with 12 short songs(eight of them five minutes or less), all written and produced by Mattsson. He plays guitars, electric sitar, bass, keyboards and percussion - think of him as the Trevor Rabin of Scandinavia! He is ably assisted by Bjorn Lodin on vocals from last year's Vision CD, and Christer Jansson on Drums. They are a three man version of Graham Bonnet era Rainbow, of Impellitteri (with Bonnet), or Yngwie Malmsteen with Joe Lynn Turner. We're talking the Ritchie Blackmore guitar style and tone, the wide vocal range and overdubbed harmonies, the dual guitar and organ lines. For the most part these are vigorous, uptempo songs with catchy melody lines, precise guitar solos and excellent production and songwriting in the classical/gothic guitar hard-rock tradition.Mattson's use of electric sitar on |
