    Artist description
If you're into melody and lyrics that probe the mind, I would suggest a listen to the music of Johnny English. An accomplished keyboardist, guitarist and vocalist, Johnny English has been producing smart, catchy, optimistic pop tunes since 1978. He's also got some heavy stuff, too. Very intense instrumental pieces and some off the wall experimental tracks. Johnny English's latest offering, "The Experience" is a sonic trip around the world. And we're talking off the beaten path, no package tours here, my friend.

    Artist History
Johnny English ~ Imagine traveling the globe in 60 minutes. This is not only an apt analogy for The latest Johnny English CD release, "The Experience", but a pretty good summation of Johnny's career which spans three decades at the time of this writing. Johnny English is an octopus. Trying to figure out which is the best foot forward isn't easy to do in one page. A gifted composer with a catalogue of over 200 original songs, he is also a seasoned live entertainer having performed for audiences world wide including the President & Vice President of The United States, and the Prime Minister of Israel. With at least 10 self-produced albums & a string of scores & jingles under his belt, English's latest collection of songs is easily the most diverse and potent grouping of ideas to date. "The Experience" covers a multitude of musical styles and lyrical concepts. Johnny English performs most of the live instruments, samples & programming, and all of the lead & backing vocals (with a little help from the Kundalini Choir). The spectrum of styles explored on this CD include pop, Latin, grunge, alternative, Hawaiian, dance, country, jazz & rock. Whether busking on Grafton Street in the heart of Dublin or conducting the Kundalini Choir in Los Angeles, California, Johnny English always leaves 'em smiling with a brilliant performance.

Johnny English - "The Experience" By Frank Matlock “The Experience,” the latest compilation by Johnny English, is by far his most seasoned, comprehensive work produced to date. Johnny’s recording and performing history spans some 20 years. On “The Experience” Johnny plays nearly all of the instruments and performs all of the lead vocals, with backing vocal help from the “kundalini choir.”The most endearing quality of “The Experience” is it’s wide array of sounds and feels. From the Hawaiian flavored “Holly Went Home, (to Hawai’i)” to the country western style of “Rely On The Moon,” the self explanatory “Brazilian Skies” to the kitschy, lounge, slipperiness of “We Are Now.” “The Experience” provides a cornucopia of sounds and shapes. A dynamic experience, to be sure! The hit, on this record, is without a doubt the uniquely uplifting “Clouds.” This song steps out from the pack. It’s easy to like the first time you hear it which can only mean one thing: you’ll want to hear it again… and again.“The Experience” opens with a curious, somewhat mysterious, instrumental piece called “ð” or “3.1415926...” The second track is “Adam & Eve,” a nice, melodic, pop ditty that sounds like it could be a hit for a good “Boy Band (oxymoron?)” It features the accomplished saxophone playing of Gary Gould, who also plays on the title track.“Brazilian Skies,” begins with a percussion rhythm, reminiscent of the “Gipsy Kings” that makes you want to shake and gyrate as if you were dancing the streets of Rio. “Eden” is a tasty, up-tempo bite you’ll find yourself singing along with, no problem. “Eden” also gets my vote to be a single. “Holly Went Home, (to Hawai’i)” is a nicely produced song that goes on a lovely journey through the heart and emotions of a girl who, upon returning to her native Hawaii, discovers herself and the varied aspects that are life.“Paramahansa Yogananda,” is an infectious track that pulls you in with funky beats and a contagious chorus, extra credit and a star on the forehead goes to the ‘kundalini choir’. I’ve no idea what this song means, but the combo of the chorus and superb violin lines, played by the gifted Lara Ibrahim, makes me want to join in and sing along! I also, find myself humming this song while grocery shopping?!?“Prophits,” should be the second single off “The Experience.” It captures your attention with tricky guitar riffs that lead to a driving hook you can’t help but submit to. This song was a “stand out” on Johnny’s recent tour of Ireland. Is it about money profits or the type that have visions? Who knows, it just sounds good.I’m no Garth fan, but “Rely On The Moon,” is a nicely produced, country western style song. The beauty in “Rely” lives in the meshing of its simple but sublime melody and lyrics. The musicianship and arrangements are first-class. (I’m not sure, but I think I heard Waylon Jennings or Hank Hill singin’ in the background.) The liner notes say “Rely On The Moon” is dedicated to the living spirit of Billy Dean Deal. This reviewer knew Mr. Billy Dean Deal. I‘m sure he smiles when this song is played, as I do too.The mood set by “Rely On The Moon” is completely obliterated by “We Are Now.” This one’s the life of the party! The spirit of the “Dresden Room,” complete with the schmaltzy, effervescence of Marty & Elaine haunt this track. There’s a refreshing tongue-in-cheek quality to a lot of these songs and this one definitely sends you off feeling swell about… well, just stuff in general. It’s plain fun. So listen to it, ya hear? The title track, “The Experience” is just that. It somehow encapsulates all the various themes and styles that weave through the elaborate tapestry of this collection. “The Experience” goes from one musical style continent to the other and back. Somehow it works. Truly, it’s the experience that counts.Amusing and fun, this music leaves you feeling pretty good about yourself. That works for me, I’ll take that kind of experience anytime. The last voice heard on “The Experience” is that of Irish-born Paddy McLaughlin, who sums everything up quite appropriately with, “Be the symbol, for healing.” Okay, why not?Edited by Michael B.
