Press Reviews
"A rare Connection", (Cheryl Squadrito, of "The Courier Post". From Mark Lapidos, founder of Beatlefest, commenting on Lennon, More Than a Memory, "The song is quite good! Good luck!" On our film soundtrack for "Wavig at God", Mike Anderson, the director for the film said, "Everybody loved your music at the theater", and "You guys did an outstanding job, thank you!" From Sandy Holcombe, who wrote the script, "People were crying and laughing in all the right spots, People came up to me and said that the music was absolutly beautiful! Thank you!" ***********Daubert & Holcombe has probably heard this a thousand times, but I'll say it again: visions of The Beatles and/or Klatuu immediately come to mind when listening to Daubert & Holcombe's music. Not only in the sound, but in the production and arrangement style. It's one thing to try and emulate a band, but it's another to use this influence and execute it properly - Daubert & Holcombe does it in spades! The extremely pleasing vocals and arrangements are remarkably close in sound to the aforementioned bands. In fact, it's almost too close. When listening to Daubert & Holcombe, one gets the feeling that their music is an extention of the Sergent Pepper album - or perhaps the White Album. Either way, it all sounds good. That said: John Daubert on his own is an extremely talented person. Many of the songs available are performed all by John. Incredible. John has a wonderful sense of melody and pop sensibility. Not surprising with such a strong influence. "Like A Laser In Space" bounces along telling a story of a strong relationship between two people. The mere thought of them separating shoots through the hero like a "laser in space". Sound strange? Maybe so, but the memorable melody and catchy chorus make for a pleasant listen worth repeating. "It's Up To You" uses the signature Ringo Star 'dumpa-chucka-tom-tom-crash' and is somewhat of a reprise of "Laser in Space". Again, lovely melodies, lush strings and a simple yet melodic arrangement takes the listener from A to B with nary a bump in the road. "Don't Want To Be Famous" "When you're in the middle of harmonies There's two ways to go You'll reach for the highs But live the lows" Genius! "Don't Want To Be Famous" is a rather ironic song about the hero not wanting to be famous for his music. He only wants you to hear the music - without the recognition. A fitting piano solo rounds out the song nicely, once again, showing the versatility of the multi-talented John Daubert. Personally - I could listen to the music of Daubert & Holcombe all day. It's easy on the ears, intelligent and at times, fun. I would highly recommend hearing some of this fine music. Visit www.mp3.com/dhsongs for a taste of nostalgia with a modern sound. Thesong is very catchy and a poignant salute to John. It is quite good. Continued success with it.” (Mark Lapidos, Founder of "Beatlefest") "I like your song, it's quite catchy", (Sam, owner of Bagism.com)Thank you very much for it! I really like the cd, especially the Lennon tribute, which I find to be one of the better Lennon tributes I have Heard, and I have a huge collection of them! (Gibb)"I like Lennon, especially the lyrics..... 5 stars all the way baby!!!" (Bryant)“I loved the song. John Lennon deserves more tributes from the songwriting community and I am touched someone still thinks that he is "more than a memory". Thanks from someone who will always be grateful for having had such a great man to influence my life. Congratulations!” (Azoreansky)“Yes! I think this song is beautiful. Two thumbs up!” (Robin Renee, Singer/Songwriter)“On Dec. 8, 1999, I posted my yearly Lennon remembrance on Bagism.com. Shortly after that, I was contacted by the makers of this song. Theytold me that they shared my love of John, and they had written a songabout him. Then they told me that if I wanted it, they would send me aFREE copy of it. They paid for *everything*. Then when the CD gothere, I told them thank you, and then they shipped another one topackage it better (mine had got slightly mangled, but was stillplayable). They were so great, that they sent me another cover toreplace the messed up one.Well, not only are these people great, their song is excellent too. Normally, tribute music falls short of being great, it is usually just amediocre little song. But that is not the case with Lennon: More than aMemory. I would recommend that *all* John Lennon fans have this CD. Itis truly a pleasure to own.” (Tammy Loney)Your song's wonderful! Have you released it? How much itcosts? I'm going to put the information on my site. (gCat, owner of a Lennon web site)“Your music is really cool !Keep up the good work!” (Anders)“It's actually a pretty decent song. Out of the many people send to me thisis one of the best”. (L. Fox, Publisher of the Web site: Beatles, Beatles, Beatles)“Really remarkably good”. (Authores) “Loved it!!It's great!! LENNON:More than a memory. It's FANTABULOUS!!!I dig!!!You guys sound great!!” (JohnLennonGirl) |
