    Artist History
This explosive foursome is deep-rooted in the local bay area scene. Tim "Soya" was the drummer for the now defunct Petaluma-based band VICTIMS FAMILY. Soya went 8 strong years with the band and played over 500+ shows, most often touring with bands like The Jesus Lizard, No Means No, and Alice Donut. Victims Family released 6 full-length CD's (White Bread Blues, The Germ, Headache Remedy, etc.) on Alternative Tentacles Records and had international success with the song, "Caged Bird" hitting no. 6 on the Holland charts. When the band eventually parted ways in '94, Tim spent a few years pursuing other avenues of the music industry. Clee's first band, CLEE, established themselves as a powerful rock band on the local scene, but that ended in '95. Eric and Clee then started PORTERHOUSE and stunned Sonoma County with their hard-edge shows. The 4-song demo tape was released and included a rap by Atlantic Recording artist, RAY LUV. As a result, Ray Luv has released the song "Easy Day" on his new album "Coup D'etat" out on Sumo Records. After a year of live shows, Porterhouse parted with it's drummer. Being long-time friends, Soya, Clee and Eric joined forces and created WINGNUT. But the band was not finished - Dave Rhoden hailed from Nevada City and his band, HIGH GAIN, was a high energy rock band that caused a noise around Sacramento. The band was short-lived, so Dave got the call from Petaluma and was stoked to be the singer for WINGNUT. With all the parts now in place, WINGNUT assembled itself into a monstrous wall of sound and has been gaining local hype through their live sets. The new 4-song demo was recorded at PRAIRIE SUN RECORDING STUDIOS and haunts you from start to finish. Currently, WINGNUT is back in the studio with rap artists RAY LUV, MAC MALL, Triple X, ANT DOG and DJ DISK (from the Invisibl Skratch Piklz) on a rap/rock EP that will be out soon! WINGNUT has been kicking ass live and have been supporting several shows with bay area favorites M.I.R.V., LAUNDRY, LES CLAYPOOL & THE HOLY MACKEREL, and oh yes... even BUCKETHEAD has rocked with these guys! Now, WINGNUT is playing regularly around the bay area and successfully drawing bigger crowds at every gig, party, celebration, or whatever circus-freak-sideshow-raging-bash each and every time!

Wingnut: "Wingnut"Now listen up kiddies, because Wingnut is delivering groove heavy serious metal!!! Forget what you think metal is. No speedcore riffage or battery acid screaming vocals to be found here. Wingnut is an exceptionally tight unit, composed of Dave Rhoden (vocals), Clee (guitars), Eric Lee (bass) and Tim Solyan (drums). Over the course of this 4 song CD, Eric and Tim lay it down hard, while Clee both augments and pulls in melodic directions not usual for a heavy band. As good as these instrumentalists are, it is Dave's vocals that really shine throughout this release. His melodic vocal style seems to recall an almost progressive rock vibe and definitely contains more melodic aspects than you would expect from music this heavy. Wingnut was definitely a welcome surprise to my ears and I think most people will feel the same. Definitely check Wingnut out!!!taken from the Cruz, Ricky's ReviewM.I.R.V., WingnutThe Bottom Line in PetalumaMy former girlfriend from my Sacramento days had a simple rule to finding a kick-ass bar. It would simply be the one with the neon cocktail glass on the exterior. Needless to say, we ended up at a lot of kick-ass bars. The Bottom Line is more kick-ass than most, especially by her standards. Once the neon has led you in, you see the second one. This neon glass is five feet tall and presides right over the bar. Not to be outdone, the bathroom sports a cocktail glass spray-painted, "While You Were Sleeping" style, on the bathroom door through which you can go to make room for the real version. As I sat at the side table, the FOX radio station staticed its way through the brick wall mounted speakers. Shiny metal chains held up the stage curtains, large and looming B&W martini photographs adorned the wall. At sometime around ten the first band started. With their powerful hard rock sound, Wingnut put that FOX station out of its misery. From the first note they exhibited a crisp sound with clean drums and a well-defined, pounding bass. "Buy a cocktail or something" the lead singer quips before clutching his chest as if he were on the verge of a heart attack. With all his intensity, a massive heart failure actually seemed imminent. This didn't phase his singing: his voice was commanding without sounding strained. I'd put these guys up against Helmet or Danzig any day. The guitarist played in fascinating detached concentration: the notes burned off the guitar with ease. Sensing the heat, the bassist Eric Lee pulled off his #8 shirt to reveal a 'three stripe brand' tee shirt. However, this was no match for the guitarist's Billabong. Wait, that didn't make sense.Sometime from the first song to the middle of the set, the place packed itself full. Wingnut never let up, they kept pace with one heavy song after another. There was some mention of technical difficulties and then there was no singer. Just the bass, guitar and drums were rocking it out. I think the lead singer only needed to take a break and get his heart defibrillated. The crowd is appreciative in a head-nodding way, but no moshing is to be had. No fault of the music; this may in part be due to the bouncers. With their matching gleaming black, red-flamed cocktail shirts, they were as menacing as they were Post-Rockabilly cool. Just then a Heavy Metal solo lit the darkened interior, Eric held the bass straight into the air, piercing some large stationary, imaginary bat. He then strummed the bass for the next song's intro; I don't think that I've ever heard that before. Somewhere between the first and last song I, along with many others, ended up with one of the many free Wingnut CD's given out during the show.- Ben KellyWingnut portion taken from Section M's Show Reviews, June-July 2000 issue #15
