Jimi Royal and K3N Finally Release "Country Parson"
Free at last, Free at last. Thank God, I'm free at last.
True story. Honest to God. True story. Ryan and I are growing up in Johnston, Iowa. "Straight outta Des Moines". During our early adolescence, we'd never even heard of Christian music. The only music I even owned was The Who's "Who's Next?" and some Three Dog Night. I played 'em over and over on this old Sears and Roebuck LP player that I picked up for $10 at a garage sale. Then, along comes this guy named Jimi Royal (and his band K3N), and he hooks us up with this LP called "Every Question Deserves an Answer". This thing completely rebalanced the equation for Ryan and I. It was (I believe) our very first exposure to "alternative" Christian music. The best track on the platter (maybe Jimi and Ryan might disagree but they're not writing this are they?) was "Country Parson". A simple tune but it was part of the larger picture of a disc that tied socially relevant commentary into meaningful Christian music for, at least for us, the very first time.
Fast forward to present. We've been buggin' Jimi to rerelease this tune into the digital age. At long last he has. YOU CAN HEAR IT HERE ON MP3.COM. Jimi's got it filed under "Americana"...I'd just file it under "at last!"
