Artist History
Joy King started her singing career at age 17 with the famous Tennessee Barn Dance and Mid-Day-Merry-Go-Round in Knoxville, Tenn.
She received a B.S. Degree in Music at the University of Tenn. From there she went to the Big "D" Jamboree in Dallas, Texas.
She recorded with RIC Records in Nashville, Tenn. with affiliated artists such as Mel Tillis, Wayne Walker, Ruby Wright (Kitty Wells daughter) and others. That led to Hollywood, California for Club and T.V. appearances.
She has sung throughout the country in various coffee houses. Fred Neil (The writer of "Everybody's Talking" from the movie "Midnight Cowboy") and Joy sang in and owned their own Coffee House in Coconut Grove, Florida. Joy owned and operated her own Coffee House, "The Raven" in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The following years involved traveling with "The Archie Campbell Show" and many other Grand Ole Opry Package shows. When Archie endorsed the recording offered here on her cassettes and CD's, he wrote, "Boy, oh boy, I get the first copy of this recording. I have enjoyed working with Joy King for quite a few years, and what a "joy" it has been. I can honestly say that Joy King is one of the finest talents on the scene today. And when it comes to yodeling I haven't heard anybody yet that even comes close. I can promise you one thing, if you don't have this recording, your library isn't complete."
Joy was featured in several categories (Women’s Week and Old Time Country) at the 1982 Worlds Fair in Knoxville, Tenn.
After spending her life on the stage (which was Joys' first love) she is no longer actively involved in public performances but is devoting her time to buying, selling and repairing Violins and Music Merchandising.
