Artist History
Born in Israel, Holymen began his musical career studying classical piano ina conservatory at the age of six. A bit later in 1995 Holy cut his first CDunder the experimental “DR Acid” DJ name. The album is seen by many as thewarning shot for the then budding Israel Electronica scene, and although notgaining a broad commercial success, the work is still seen by many aspioneering the many trends in Israeli Trance –something which Holymen (akaHolly Shwartz) is doing to this day. Holly’s style reflects a uniquecombination of hi NRG dance music which is at oncein-your-face-as-you-like-it-dance-it’ll-you-drop, but also not lackingemotional aspects. In 1997 Holly made his second CD, which turned out to behis Holymen debut. Under the name Holymen Holly cut the compilation “overthe sunrise” with Eyal Barkan which is to-date the best selling Israelielectronica album. This work was the epitome of up-front trance, with a nofuss attitude that reflected the scene at the time. After the phenomenalsuccess of “over the sunrise” Holly was invited to play at raves worldwideand has since built a fanatic following in Greece and Japan. Holly ‘s 3rd CDwas made in 1998 on both Israeli and Japanese soil. Titled “IntelligenceGenetics” this album continued Holly’s messianic up-front tradition –so muchso that it created a sub genera titled “nizhonot” –victory anthems in theIsraeli scene. Intelligence Genetics went on to become holly’s first Goldalbum, which he cut entirely on his own. Holly’s next two albums C4 andNitch O’ Not reflected his success locally with the rave crowds on theanthems side. Using samplings from video games, as well as popular 80’s TVshow tunes Holly makes the crucial connection with the crowd, even if theyare hearing the track for the first time. As one of his fans put it “it’slike I’m in there with him in the studio –he’s doing everything I would havedone if I had any talent”. With the turn of the millennium Holly turned backto his ancestral roots for an inner search of what he was and where he isgoing. This began his movement towards his search for the Middle Easternroots to his music. In his 6th album titled 7th Heaven Holly gatheredinfluences from the antiquity of the Middle East to create his firstEtno-Trance album. 7th Heaven was a break into uncharted territory forHolly –no more a “brute force” album, but more a harmonic weave of classicand next generation electronica, which both lifts the spirit, and moves thebody. Holly’s latest album is the culmination of 3 years’s of “tracks that I’ve put off to the side for just this kind of an album” according toShwartz. “The Color Of Sound” is a unique work in that it has a broaderrange of sounds, and themes than the previous albums, but still packs theclassic Holymen beats, and breakdowns. Holly currently resides in Israel, and tours worldwide promoting his music. For any inquiries, distribution, as well as booking.
