Artist description
A visionary with overflowing creative juices, Jason S. has managed to balance school and his day job to institiute his dreams into reality by creating his digital presence by the name, Hexnilium. His sheer power and design when engineering the album tracks are instrumental with developing the transcendental sound. Jason's classical piano experience manifests the core songs, premastering them on the old-fashioned ivories. He creates the melodic tones with visualscapes in mind which influence the themes that are deeply woven into each cantation. "Sometimes...", he says, " the ideas take shape in my inner ear...", which helps create the mystique about each song. The most unique methodology of his creation lies within his developement process. He creates the song on the grand piano, and creates a full length and in-depth piano song. He never writes the song down, but remembers the entire piece within his head. Since the song isn't written in stone, and his mind likes to ponder new ideas, the songs are ever changing and improvised on the spot when performed. This improvisation is a sight to see and understand. Each time the pieces are played something different is taken and added, but the quality is always equal to or better than the original. "This makes it tough to record music", he says, "never being able to get each part perfect. However, my degree of perfection is a high standard not found on this planet." In overall, the musical background, and inventive engineering result in a unique and influential soundscape. |

Artist History
Jason S., related to the famous Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) who wrote the symphonic suite called Scheherazade, was born in Space City, Houston, Texas in 1982. Since his forth coming into the world, he picked up on music extremely fast, and began piano lesson's in the 3rd grade at age 8. During the following years, he developed a musical ear and began expanding his horizons of music to different genres from popular hard rock and alternative to soft jazz, big-band, and classical. He joined the school band in the 6th grade at age 11 and chose to play the clarinet because of his musical influence of Woody Herman. After 2 years of clarinet, he switched to the bass clarinet because of a comical reason that he wanted a more manly instrument. After quitting the marching band 2 years later to keep his academic studies in balance, he began to take classical jazz guitar lessons. He studied guitar for 3 years until he moved to San Antonio. When he moved to San Antonio, he also quit taking piano lessons after taking them for almost 10 years. He continues to study classical and improvisational piano on his own. The developement of his taste for electronic music began in 1995 after the movie Hackers. He had liked the groups The Prodigy, and other electronically influenced bands like Stabbing Westward, but after the movie Hackers he fell in love with electronica. His friend who had recently moved from Massachusettes influenced him the most since the eastern seaboard was more in tune with the techno revolution. However, the movie Hackers changed his life into a goal of becoming proficient with computers, mastering the game Wip3' Out'' for Sony Playstation, and making a pilgrimage to New York City to go to a "Cyberdelia" techno party, which he later found out are called "raves". He found himself at Blockbuster music constantly in the dance/electronic section searching for that eargasming tune and underground music that were secrets waiting to be heard. Many groups became solid foundations for his understanding of the techno sound. Keoki, BT, The Orb, Orbital, and The Prodigy were some of the first solid foundations. After that, an entire world of delight came forth to his ears. Eventually, after learning more about the computer and how to work it, he became interested in computer generated sound. First, teaching himself the basics on a simple wav editing program. Then mastering techniques he simply made up to produce desired sounds from just simple editing commands. Eventually, he found himself needing more technology to increase his demand for creativity. He upgraded to pro versions of music rendering programs, and found love in a simple MS-DOS tracking program called Impulse Tracker. Even though the sounds are simple enough and quality is lost from unprofessional blending, he made up for this by creating a way to blend the songs' sounds in a very professional transcending way. After producing a few songs, he decided to purchase a keyboard for some real hands-on experience. The hardware vs. software issue is still at the top of his mind, because he loves them both so dearly. Within the last 3 years he became very interested in the DJ culture, and decided to invest alot of time and learn the basics of DJ-ing. He then applied his background to overcome the song mixing to become a DJ that makes music. After learning to spin by being self-taught, he is still mastering the techniques of mixing and remixing on old-fashioned turntables and his new fasination with cd turntable mixers. Through out his musical career he has learned alot about performance, technique, practice, and mastering that have provided the world with a multitalented musician that has many surprises still to come. |
