Artist History
Derk Started to play organ when he was 8.
His mother taught him to read klavarscribo a simplified and easy to read music notation for piano and organ.
Therefore he still can't read music notation.
When he was 11 years old he his switch from organ to playing piano.
Derk taught himself to play the piano.
He bought his first synthesizer/keyboard a Crumar Performer (strings & Brass), drum computer and Akai tape recorder when he was 15.
Several instruments followed. A Hohner Pianet T, Yamaha electric Piano PF15 and the Yamaha TX7 synthesizer module, bongo, tambourine, triangle, shaker and a Hohner chromatic tooth Harp.
He experimented with the sound on sound function of the Akai tape recorder and record his first songs.
Derk found out that he reach a limit in teaching himself to play the piano.
This changed when he came in contact with his neighbour Dolf Kaper who had been a musician/Jazz pianist in the fifties and sixties.
Dolf Kaper gave him some lessons in how to read and understand chords.
This gave Derk a great stimulation in making music.
However he moved with his parents and lost contact with the Kaper family.
Dolf Kaper is now conductor of Whale City Sound one of the biggest barbershop-choruses in the Netherlands. http://www.whalecitysound.nl
Financial problems forced Derk to sell all his instruments and he didn't want to play anymore. Two years later he bought some second hand instruments and started with his favourite hobby again. His first computer was a DOS computer 8080 with a midi-card and sequencer program Easy Eight of Twelve tone music.(Now Cakewalk)
For years he stored his ideas and songs in the computer but didn't do nothing with it.
Then he discovered www.mp3.com , www.getoutthere.com an www.vitaminic.com and started to recording songs to put on the internet and with success.
