Artist description
DS Irvin compiled and arranged "To Oscar, A Collection of Aesthetic Melodies" as a result of her interest in Oscar Wilde and his times, “My inspiration in reproducing the songs for this collection was purely personal, coupling my fascination with the arts and Oscar Wilde’s 1882 American Tour. The music I’ve included is from 1880s public domain sheet music and is a testament to Wilde’s influence on the society of that time. I produced the CD because I wanted to hear what these songs sound like and I was unable to find an existing recording for such a collection.” Each song was entered note by note into a computer program and then arranged digitally. “To Oscar took me over a year to complete, and personally, I am very happy with the results.” Following is a quote from Roy Waters, an avid collector of theatrical ephemera, residing in London: "TO OSCAR is a CD of the music of 18 Songs, Galops, Waltzes, Etc., mostly composed during Oscar Wilde’s American Tour in 1882. Playing them electronically, Diane Irvin evokes the period harmonium, and presents a lively performance of the extraordinary musical responses to Wilde’s American tour... In my view this is a collector's item." Plans for the entire CD to appear on MP3.com and be available here are underway. |
