Artist description
Jon Zachary grew up in the small mountain community of Cashiers, NC. In summers, when he wasn't in school, he pumped gas in his father's Exxon station.Jon's solace was his guitar and the songs he learned while hanging aroundother musicians. He sang these songs for anyone who would listen, but intime he realized that, since he was no virtuoso on the guitar, and his voicewas best suited for calling cats, he would need to learn to write songs.Howhard could that be?Jon filled the meantime with a career as a commercial photographer. Hephotographed everything from waste water treatment plants to children'sfashion. Some thirty years later, Jon finally wrote a song that he liked, and hiscreative focus (so to speak) began to shift. Encouraged by this success, hewrote more and more songs. He took advantage of his well developed eye fordetail. Friends and family liked his songs! They encouraged him to entersongwriting contests. He did and found his songs accepted by anever-widening audience--Triangle Folk Music Society Contest, 1998; ChrisAustin/MerleFest, 1998; NC Songwriters Cooperative, 1999.Jon won the praises of such prestigious songwriters as Guy Clark, "Good damnsong, man!"; Kate Campbell, "That song is just perfect,"; Bob Franke, "Justkeep writing those wonderful songs"; Cosy Sheridan, "You're a wonderfulsongwriter!"; and Steve Seskin, "Wow!". At live shows, his fans (yes, hehadfans now) would ask him why he didn't have a CD. So, he made one. That's what you have in your hands, Jon's first CD. It was recorded withthesimplicity and clarity that best serves these songs. OK, Jon may be no whizas a singer or guitarist but neither is Bob Dylan or John Prine (or LeonardCohen or Kris Kristoferson or Tom Waits or ..., well, you get the picture). |
