Artist History
J15 were formed, about 5 years ago by Graeme Elliott (bass)& Mick Benton (guitar & lead vox) as a rock covers band under the name of Junction 15. Several drummers auditioned for the job before Graham Cowling joined, adding his own inimitable heavy style to the bands already punchy sound. They played the local rock pub circuit in Northampton as a four piece with keyboard player, who left after about 6 months to pursue his own interest. The band decided to add to their sound with second lead guitarist Mal Jones, and with a “Les Paul” either side of the stage Junction 15 were complete. Mick, Mal & Graham had previously been together in Bite The Bullet, and were successful in the early nineties in securing a major record deal with Jet Records. The Bullets released two singles and an album of original material written by Mick. The second single “Edge of the Rain” was Capital Radio’s record of the week and was played by Nicky Campbell on his Radio One show. However, the big-time eluded the boys and eventually they disbanded in ’95. In 2001 Junction 15 are still going strong and have many more offers of gigs than they can handle. Somehow they found the time late last year to record a new album of original material, and as Mal Jones had too much on to make all the sessions it was decided to release “Screaming!” under the name of J15. Musical influences on the album are numerous, every body in the band likes someone different, but the complete sound is driving rock with melody, having its roots in heavy guitar riffs, solid bass and kicking drums. |
