Artist description
As a child Dani Carroll's parents took the family on camping trips, where shelearned campfire harmonies to CSNY, James Taylor and Simon & Garfunkel. Carroll wrote her first melody on a piano at age 9, and penned her first song at 13. Her decision to become a musician was sealed when she saw a movie outlining the life and music of Richie Valens. Songwriting and music were often a solace and escape from an absolute sense of isolation at school and a busy, distracted life at home. Carroll began to truly find her 'place' in the world when she began associating and performing with other San Diego singer-songwriters. Carroll's life-long dedication to her music and writing has resulted in a rare combination of focus and warmth towards her listening audience that is cherished by both her fan base and colleagues alike. Paying her musical dues with such noted local celebrities as John Katchur, BerkleyHart, Tim Flannery, Eve Selis and The Redwoods - opening for Paul Simon and Bob Dylan - has meant that her first foray into recording is a strong and strikingly seasoned offering. Carroll has a knack for attracting stellar mentors and serendipitous arrangements - the piano she plays on 'When I'm Still In Love With You' is the same that John Lennon recorded 'Imagine' on. A dynamic live performer, Carroll writes strongly, passionately and sweetly; winding stunning vocal power and capacity around and through beguiling layered melody. Awards include: 1999 Songwriter of the Year for NCMAI (National Country Music Association International), 1996 Catch A Rising Star, and in 1999 she played the prestigious main stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Folk Alliance Festival in Albuquerque. Her self-titled album has been nominated in the San Diego Music Awards for Best Pop Album of 2001. Her new album 'Sacred' is due for release on November 9 at Java Joes in Ocean Beach, CA with special guests Gregory Page, Jeff Berkley, Nucci, Chris Nilsson....and phenom opener Tim Flannery~ |
