Artist History verde means green in spanish. green as in mint chocolate chip ice cream. the emerald city. the rolling hills of tennessee. and a sincere pop outfit. verde likes to write, play shows, and record their songs to 4-track at home and recently, in a hi-fi studio setting. new recordings demonstrate that the result of working with producer john keaney and engineer chad brown has given verde a more focused, textured sound without losing the band‚s indie sensibilities. this is evident in songs like "go slow" and "just getting by." it all started in 2001 when guitarist and singer andrea dewese self-released a debut titled say good morning. with no band and no audience, she fourtracked the songs she had been writing in her own bedroom. the ten-song album includes songs about thrift store shopping sprees, early morning drives, silver skyscrapers and love, as well as a classic velvet underground cover. this brought andrea mucho satisfaction, but her habit didn’t leave the bedroom until many months later when the time came for a live show and cd release. andrea performed many times as a drums and electric guitar duo with her husband david dewese. the gentle dynamics of the songs and the soft and simple vocal harmonies of the husband and wife team became verde trademarks. however, the two soon wondered what they would sound like as a trio - as a "real" band. with david switching to bass and the addition of drummer brian fuzzell, the band realized the full potential of the songs. then, with david’s departure to focus more on his music, keith lowen was called in to fill out the low end with his dynamic bass touch. after all of these twists and turns, verde is now recording, writing, buying fancier equipment, and playing shows. building on a sleepy mellow pop foundation, verde continues to enter more rock-oriented territories while still keeping their lo-fi charm intact. andrea dewese after graduating from her texas college in 1997, consequently breaking up her first girl rock band, the blue sugars, guitarist and singer andrea began to play music on her own. on a whim, she submitted a lemonheads cover to a tribute compilation on new england’s ultra-lo-fi hello doll records. she chose to credit the song to the band verde because "andrea dewese" just sounded funny to her modest ears. the name stuck, and andrea - the one & only chica behind verde - soon recorded her debut. brian fuzzell drummer brian was in attendance at verde's first show. one of his previous bands in indiana made a lollapalooza appearance and another was a finalist in a national sam goody contest. brian has also toured with no karma records' shoe-gazer rock group the falling. keith lowen bassist keith has been a bit of a fixture in the nashville music scene for many years. before his 18th birthday, keith’s band lifeboy had signed a major label deal. since then, he has played with CMT video jockey katie cook and recently toured japan with actor anthony rapp.
