Press Reviews
Hokum Blues Express Good Feelin' Blues HB990321/Indiehttp://www.torontobluessociety.com/0010prm.htm Three groups of younger and/or lesser known players with solid new releases, Hokum Blues Express is a four year-old group of veterans dedicated to "Hokum" or nonsense blues. The term was used to describe double entendre songs with sometimes very crude lyrics that were very popular in the 20's & `30's. On Good Feelin' Blues, Rick Gregus, guitar, vocals; Tony Bird, guitar, vocals; Eric Fefferman, bass, vocals and M. Bruce Brooker, drums perform fifteen songs, nine of them originals, that extend that definition to some straight-ahead country blues as well - "Dark Road Blues", & "I Can't Be Satisfied" are excellent performances and that applies to the entire album as well. Well worth checking out |
