Artist description
Happy Savage, from Seattle, is a dynamic six-piece dance band, with a unique blend of funked-up blues, rock, reggae, jams that boldly go where no jam has gone before. Happy Savage performs many original songs, with lyrics about peace, love, trees, human beings, and the end of the world as we know it. Guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, percussion, and vocals create the Happy Savage sound. "Somewhere between psychedelic space jams, and rolling grooves, they have that Grateful Dead/Little Feat sound about them that makes you want to dance. Definitely a lot of fun and worth checking out." (hotbands.com) |

Artist History
Happy Savage played its first gig at the Blue Moon tavern, in Seattle, in June of 1996. The band was formed by Luke Painter to perform his original songs, and to jam. He had moved to Seattle from Texas, where he played gospel, reggae, and psychedelic rock, in the hot Austin music scene. The Happy Savage combination of open jams, dance grooves, and great pop songs found itself right at home in the Pacific Northwest. Luke's songs of environmental angst, and the desire for a peaceful and beautiful world, catch people at a gut level, and helped the band find a following through festivals such as the Oregon Country Fair. The addition of Beth Collins on vocals in July, 1998, greatly expanded and enhanced the Happy savage sound, with her powerful and expressive singing, and her original song ideas. Happy Savage released it's first studio CD, "Treehugger", on Earth Day, April 22, 2000, soon followed by a live CD, "The Ancient One". For more information check www.happysavage.com. |

Press Reviews
Happy Savage, "Treehugger" (hypermusic) - Sometimes low-budget discs from local bands are more enjoyable than high-budget major label productions because of the raw energy, sheer, unadulterated talent, and damn-it-we-mean-it vibe that comes shining through on them. Seattle's Happy Savage has made such a disc. In concert, Happy Savage stretches out into credible and enjoyable 20-minute jams, often on [Grateful] Dead songs like "The Other One" or "Fire On The Mountain" [as on their live CD, "The Ancient One"]. On this record, however, they demonstrate the strength of their songwriting, and ability to be concise, giving voice to the environmental concerns and alienation from modernity that were more often found in the Dead's audience than in their music, in fine three to five minute rock songs. The title track alone makes this a great gift for the music-loving activist in your circles. A strong disc demonstrating that folks in the Great Northwest looking for a good time would do well to check out Happy Savage. -- da Flower Punk, www.pauserecord.com |
