Artist description
I've always had a fascination for the Blues. From Mississippi John Hurt to Muddy Waters., Bukka White to Blind Lemon Jefferson through to the white blues singers of the late fifties such as Dave Von Ronk, the range of vocal and guitar technique is vast. From this base all you can do is interpret each song or instrumental in your own way and hope and hope that something of the original is present at the end of it. At least that's what I hope on each of the tracks of my album. No doubt someone will put me straight. Guitar Vocal Fiddle and all arraignments Doug Piggott |

Artist History
Started guitar in the late sixties via the folk scene, thoughthe first chord sequenceI put together was for Sonny and Cher's'I got you babe'.Luckily Dylan came on the scene closely followedby Bert Janch and John Renbourne. Both of their guitar styles fascinated me and from there it was a case of trying to learnhow to do it by listening to the records over and over again. At that time I used a Levin 'Goliath' guitar which I doctoreda bit. Great bass but pretty heavy on the action... I use it now for bottleneck. Helped run the Inverness Folk Club in theearly days, until around '73/74, when I gave up playing guitar. In the early '90's I had the chance of buying a J38 Gibson. After a twenty-two year break from playing guitar I started againand found that a good guitar really makes all the difference.During my 'retiral' I had listened to a lot of different musicbut found myself, again, drifting back to the traditional blues,pre-Chicago era, and putting it together in my own way.Still working at it! Visited Chicago this year and have startedtrying to come to terms with electric blues on my oldLes Paul Gibson. Other music likes? Traditional scottishballads and songs, late fifties-early sixties bebop, guitaristDavy Graham, probably the best player of accoustic I've heard, and last but not least The Incredible String Band. |
