Artist description
Each Adom track is a kind of fist-fight between our influences and our experimentation, between ourselves and each other, between our heads and our feet. And it doesn't really matter who wins, as long as they listen loud and dance hard. |

Press Reviews
Southeast Performer, May, 2000 Adom - 5-song demo review Produced by Chris Brann - It's high time a local band brought to light a sound so true and pure that, even in its infancy, it renders the stereotypical connotations of "local band" completely insignificant. The beauty of Adom is that their music gorgeously coalesces these musicians fondness for soul, jazz, and eclectic alt. Rock. Although stylistically simple, their songs produce a kaleidoscope of soundscapes and grim over with unrestrained creativity. Dissect each members' distinct role in this quartet and you'll hear: A lead voice with a smooth and soulful high-pitched tone (along the lines of Jeff Buckley and Peter Gabriel); a guitarist who flirts with Eno-style experimental psychedelia, but who also nods at The Verve with an airy jazz-like sensibility; a bassist capable of all things considered groove and beyond; and a drummer whose refined percussive style and precise timing is so tight you'd swear Mike D. of the Beasties and Geoff Barrow from Portishead gave him private lessons. Adom's appeal is in both their groove-oriented rhythms and entrancing musical sensuality. The moody "Plastic" taunts you with its undeniably infectious and ethereal trip-groove, while singer Conal Byrne croons with breathy seductiveness over lyrics such as, "Hollywood never looked so good/People made of plastic, tongues made of wood." Adom turns temptress on "Eve," with a hypnotic bass line and enticing effects-laden guitar, including just the right amount of wah-wah pedal to "get you in the mood." As Byrne begins to exclaim with dreamy fervor, "Eve screams poetry," drummer Andrew Freni segues into offbeat syncopation worthy of Stewart Copeland for the perfect finishing touch. Adom's musical chemistry actually seems to bleed from each member, forming a cohesive foundation of unadulterated creativity. The end result is a set of fearless, uninhibited, and mesmerizing compositions.Creative Loafing, May 6: Sound Menu, 99X, Noted Acts for Monday, May 8 Adom - If you missed this promising new local band's Bunnymen-meets-U2 set at Music Midtown (or if you want to experience it again right away), now's your chance to catch them where the cover charge is only $1. Smith's Olde Bar (Nicoll).Creative Loafing, April 1 Sound Menu, 99X, Noted Acts for Wednesday, April 5 Adom - Despite being produced by Wamdue Project's rising electronica god Chris Brann, this new local quartet is a relatively conventional "rock" group that sounds at times like Jeff Buckley or Sting fronting a groove band, at times like an American Happy Monday and at times like a less tedious Radiohead. Adom headlines the Crescent Room's recently inaugurated "Live Wednesdays," which also features DJ Swivel. Crescent Room (Sarig) |
