Artist History
In previous bands they did over 250 concerts & studiowork, a previous video got high rotation broadcast on European music tv, including MTV. Red to Violet is their new start... With their loyal recording engineer, who brought in the finest of his vintage microphones & 70's sound effects, they installed a studio on location on the green Belgium hills, in a large holidayhouse. They got in all the gear, even a huge analog 24 track, which Golden Earring's guitarist (remember his U.S no-1 Radar Love?!) let them use for recording & mix. Red to Violet invited musicians for bass, drums, mouth harp, occasional hammond organ, occasional backing vocals & percussion. Recording in this free kind of manner, they had the luxury to be able to take the time to record. No $$ clocks ticking away and getting on everyone's nerves, but recording with a focus on great parts and vibes... After this first recording session of 5 weeks total, they moved to another house in the woods to record the final parts and mix the album, for several months. Again they were in the position to take the time and to make it the album they wanted it to be...: Strong songs, fascinating lyrics, good vibes, unique soundscapes and when listening carefully new sounds seem to pop up every time you have a listen, as someone has said... After the mix has been done, yes manually (!), the analog recording team went to the legendary Abbey Road "Beatles" studios in London to have the album mastered. A great experience ofcourse for indies with a mission, a musical dream... During this attended session again a magic interaction between Abbey Road's mastering engineer Sean Magee, Red to Violet and recording engineer Kees van Gool resulted in a high vibe session and a true, great sounding colorful rock album. As Abbey Road's mastering engineer Sean Magee said: "It was great team work. I really enjoyed the way the mix was built up. The session was a memorable one. Not only for the amount of cappuccino's we had, but also for the great working atmosphere. I think we can all be happy with this result. I still listen to it with much pleasure...!" The indie recording company Commuse, working exclusively for Red to Violet, decided to produce a music video for the debut single "Here I Am" to give the band and the album all the possibilities of promotion. In this D.I.Y. enterprise, Red to Violet even directed the video for "Here I Am." The video is one of the most requested indie music videos on the web and has made its debut on U.S. tv...! Besides a release in U.S. through indie distribution of The Orchard NY, the Red to Violet debut album has a successful release in Greece (co-operation with Warehouse Records, Athens) and in 2001 releases are arranged in Canada, U.K., Japan & more to come... |

Press Reviews
"Red to Violet are the new Eurythmics...!" (Comcast Network CN-8, U.S. largest cable TV network), "If imports like Red to Violet's self titled debut are any indication of a growing musical movement from Holland, then they have some high standards to meet. The Haarlem (not Harlem) duo cuts through some high grade indie pop rock gems, accented by a sensual voice and uplifting message of inner peace (appropriately enough being one of the song titles) and guitars which at times seem to crystallize, yet remain an almost liquid flow in songs like "It Comes Again" and "Mother Earth." Red to Violet may be a colorful band, but unlike a lot of other artists, they're not likely to fade." (Omar Perez, radio DJ EyeQ radio Miami FL, reviewer AltarNative.com), "From their hit "Here I Am" to the ballad "Mr J" the baritone vocals of EL ring through with the backing of Onno on guitars and percussion. This Dutch group's great sound makes it hard to classify, as it is very different from the normal sounds from the U.S.A." (Rick Siegel NY, OnLineTV.com), "You'll find yourself immediately charmed by the essence of this modern rock duo from Haarlem, Holland. This great sounding song "Here I Am" is a very radio friendly kind of sound and with any luck that's where you'll be hearing it soon. The deep lyrical tone and soothing female vocals with a great hook are sure to have you wanting to purchase their CD just to hear more." (USGIGTV.com), "This is definitely a band whose music is set to grab a wide ranging audience and they're only just starting off...!" (Terry Allen, hEARd magazine, Australia), "Red to Violet est super!" (Patrick Martinez, radio DJ France), "Happy, loose approach like Eagle Eye Cherry. It's easy to see these guys are flagged for the bigtime!" (NOW-satellite tv Asia & NOW.com), "The music on this album is very similar to The Pretenders. Although there are similarities, Red to Violet stand alone in their uniqueness. I was surprised at the quality of this band and their music. the vocals are raw and beautifully presented in a full rock fashion, while the music is orchestrated with masterful expertise... "Here I Am" is a prime rock cut, worthy of much radio attention and airplay.. It is easy to see that this band is ready for the bigtime and well deserving of it. They have produced an album that has a number of quality songs that could all very be chart toppers. the song that has stuck in my head all day is "Mr J". the song is a mellow composition with superior lyrical content. When it somes to great music and songwriting, this duo pulls all the stops. This is one CD that I'll be listening to a lot more..." (Michael Alison of TheGlobalMuse.com) |
