Press Reviews
It's been a long strange musical trip for the man who calls himself Moe Z. MD: born in the gospel/blues territory of Clarksdale, Miss.; growing up in the West Coast rap scene with Dr. Dre, Tupac and Snoop Dogg; hooking up with John Mellencamp, of all people, and moving to the Monroe County burg of Unionville. But musical and societal boundaries have never held back the 32-year-old Moe, a writer, arranger, producer, engineer, manager, vocalist and musician who — like his role model, Prince — can play just about any instrument placed in his hands. He sang from the time he could speak, picked up bass and drums, played piano in church as a teen and blew the alto sax in junior high marching band. "I know this was bad, but I stole somebody's flute and I taught myself how to play it," he says, sounding remorseful over the phone. "I stole somebody's trumpet in high school. But I was from the ghetto and that's how we did things. I'm out of that now." |
