Artist History
Mark Caldwell purses his lips together, fills his cheeks with air and blows, - out comes the sound of the flute his mother could not buy him when he was a child. Left alone most days with a stack of his mother's and brother's Jazz records, Mark's whistle was Pharoah Sanders' saxophone and Herbie Mann's flute. The talent brought young Mark applause from the men at the fish market in Brooklyn, his home town. When he grew up and took a job at the post office, the neighbors waited for the "PIED PIPER" to come around with the mail, he said. As time went on, it grew a lot of popularity, that whistle. "It developed and people started telling me to do it for money", Mark said. It took a long time, a lot of practice, and dozens of performances at Colleges, High Schools, Elementary Schools, Nursing Homes, Boys Homes and County Fairs. He plays R&B-Jazz-Country-Hip Hop- Classical-Pop-Reggae, etc. By hearing alone with startling, realistic, some say therapeutic sounds of a real flute.
