    Artist description
Half classical and half punk yet neither at the same time, 13th Chair is an instrumental trio heavily influenced by the bands ‘godspeed you black emperor!’ ‘...and you’ll know us by the trail of dead’ as well as ‘Radiohead’ and ‘At the Drive In.’ Mixing the delicacy and dynamics of classical with the angst of punk rock, 13th Chair crafts songs based on themes and varying patterns that never fully repeat themselves, yet form collectively as a whole. The tension of quiet melodies and raw rock leaves listeners unable to look back and impatiently waiting their next move.

    Artist History
13th Chair formed in the winter of 2001 shortly after their previous punk/ska band had broken up. Sick of the whole pop mentality and the restrictions of vocals, guitarist Jesse Chamberlain, drummer Tyson Valyou and bassist Chris Valyou decided to experiment with as many different, structures, textures, and dynamics as possible within the trio. The three soon decided to invest their hard-earned money into their own project studio to record improvised sessions, and as a tool for song construction. After nearly a year of countless practices, random recordings and a growing fan base, bassist and long time friend Chris Valyou decided to leave the band to pursue his hardcore roots. Unsure of their future but determined not to give up, Jesse and Tyson saw this as an opportunity to start from scratch and rework the music and the band as a whole. The two searched for months for the right bassist, and eventually came across Chris Simard. Within a month 13th Chair was back to where they left off, but this time with tighter compositions. In the time since, 13th Chair has rebuilt their following, finding themselves at home among hardcore/punk fans, as well as emo/art/math rock fans. They have just recently released a 3 song EP recorded in their own studio.
