Artist History "Y" is a good question, and "Y" is the answer. "Y" is one of the hottest up and coming bands to appear on the Pugetropolis music scene in half a decade. Hailing from Port Orchard, WA, the group "Y" originally formed as the Braindarts in the spring on 1996 and gigged around extensively under that name for 3 years before discovering that an east coast band had been playing as the Braindarts since the early 1980's. Upon this discovery the band assumed the name "Y". The name being an innuendo of sorts satisfied the overall need for the many aspects that the collective members represented. The name teamed with its symbolic chromed woman icon makes a distinct impression on all that see it. Having just finished recording their self titled EP "Y" at Temple Sound/ Music Abuse studio in Port Orchard with engineer Tony Reed and with the addition of a new guitarist, the band embarked on an aggressive gigging schedule earning fans from as far north as Bellingham to as far south as Los Angeles. "Y" is a compilation of experienced musicians as well as passionate performers from a plethora of local bands from the area. Finally joining together the determination of a group of die-hards with the combination of styles influenced by early pioneers such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to the more recent works of early Motley Crue, Tool, Rage Against the Machine. With a warm spot in their hearts reserved for the pre-grunge Seattle sound of Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam and Gruntruck. The members of "Y" include the ringleader and extraordinary front man Brad Dearth on vocals. His unique blend of poetic eloquence and raw edge lyrical style executed with melodic warmth provide the finishing touch on the groove laden. Heavy chugging riffs of duel guitarist Jae Jung and Michael Schuyler, lead and rhythm respectively, coupled with the low end thump and funk of bassist Gabe Collins and drummer Randy Fort's hard hitting solid back beat style, "Y" spews forth a seemingly endless supply of original high energy songs. Compounded with the many other talented and extraordinary bands of the Kitsap area, "Y" is dedicated and determined to not only put the west sound on the map, but to bring its own touch of high energy, feel good, no bullshit, in your face brand of music and stage show to the entertainment table of the more than hungry masses.
