Artist description Jay Swindle was born in 1977 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Greenville,Texas, and spent most of his life there before moving to Lubbock to attend school at Texas Tech University. After College he moved to Dallas, where he spent the last two years. He then moved down to Austin, where he played the Watertank and Cafe Mia, but Jay is back in Dallas now where you can find him playing at the Studio Movie Grill or the Lone Star Cafe. Swindle has been playing the guitar for 10 years but didn't start writing his own music until 1997. He has been writing and performing his own music since the fall of '97. Swindle has been influenced by some of the greatest singer/songwriters. His first influences were guys like Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, and Don Williams. These were the artists his father listened to as a kid. Soon after that, he discovered artists like Springsteen, Dylan, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, and Lyle Lovett. He decided on his career after hearing Willis Alan Ramsey. When asked where he sees himself in five years, Swindle says, "I've never really seen myself as someone who wants to be extremely famous. I'd settle for being respected. I feel like I'm a little young to be taken all that seriously as a songwriter. I mean, if you write about your life experiences, how much have I really had? In five years, I hope to be writing better songs and playing when need be. As much as I would love to make a living writing and playing music, I don't have any plans to quit my day job."
