Artist History
Aaron's first band was called Youth Supremacy,
and played "loud" punk rock with socio-political themes.
music. The band went through ten drummers and
a few guitarists and a bass player in
it's two years before there trans formation into The Junkies
Revenge. JR was a completely sarcastic arstic "reality
terrorist organization" focused on shaking up
people's belief systems with controversal
performances. These performances revolved around
changing skits and were often spontanious and
included improvisation and audience participation.
The purpose of the project was to shock
the audience into questioning themselves and the
world aroud them. The sound style was chaotic with
loud distorted giutar, pounding bass, machine gun
drums, skreaching synths and relentless vocal assult.
Their feature performance at Twinfield highschool
included stage theatrics such as self mutilation,
throwing of raw meat, and breaking stuff, all done with
a smile. The performace pushed the limits of audience
participation by involving everyone present in the
music physically, mentaly or emotionally in some manner,
especially the adults present. The result was total anarchy,
mass confusion and the largest profit to investment margin
of their carreer. As band members came and went, the two
founding members (Lucas Veraline and Aaron Jones) adapted
their act to hit the streets (mainly Church street in
Burlington and city center in Montpellier). Performing on
the street with acoustic guitar, found percussion and a
occasionally a Dr. Sample they transformed the act into a more
lis tenable and less hostile expression. These performances
included social politcal and philosophical satire in the music and a
rollerblading balloon clown to interact directly with the
audience. This served as the transition to a more refined
style an d the new name Nihlarchy. The band started to embrace
keyboards, samples, and effects into the music resulting
in an experimental touch to the raw energy of previous years.
Nihlarchy made use of several new performace techniques
during this time. In addition to the introduction of electronic
instuments they also utilized found metal objects as procussion
to balance out the electronics and intagrated paper mache' masks,
sculpture, lighting, and weird plasic machine waste as door prizes,
stuffed animals and nerf weapons (for the audience members lacking
the attention span for the plot or message), and home made costumes.
This time period included the lord mung who was a false idol
(a 4' back cat) we pretended to worship then sacrafice at our first
presentation and ressurected it as a character for
The Post Industrial Hate Machine (which was their primary act for
indoor performances). They performed their last show in the parking lot,
at Bread and Puppet's last traditional Domestic Resurrection Circus.
The performance was only about 35 minutes (due to the inverter requiring
the vehicle to be running) and took place inside a tarp-structure
with translucent and opaque plastic and set up to obscure/ present
the art and music inside. The set was illuminated
by only a red, blue and strobe light and only
the window was a partially open part of the tent
2' in diameter that allowed one person at a time to enter on their hands and knees
into the set. The view was mostly obscured by the peculliar mixed media
sculpture by, Aaron Jones, allowing only glimps of the masked and
costumed shadows inside. The band fell apart when Luke left to
major in microbiology at the University of Chicago. Since then
Aaron Jones went through a pediod of remission, only doing short
and mostly acoustic performances, developing his musical abilities,
and aquiring the advanced sampling equipment to compose and perform
songs alone.
JR met it's end when co-founder Lucas Veriline left
to study molecular biology at the University of Chicago
Dievolve rose out of the ashes as a concept
descrbing the constant evolution of life and art.
Dievolve is relead thier first full length
album along with two 5 song demos. Aaron did all
the vocals and instramentals on the disc.
Aaron Jones has also studied Blacksmithing and
metal fabrication for 3 years and offers a variety
of scultpural and functional products and services.
Aaron
The original music video was used for a video installation
performed and constructed by Dievolve
founder Aaron Jones. It consisted of a four
foot cube covered inside with reflective sheet metal and
outside with smashed and charred circuits. The
front is a scrim mesh screen with a smashed TV
covered with bars and layers of warped window screen in place of glass, centered in the middle. When you
look through you can see the American flag painted
on the back wall. For the installation, the flag
was covered with a textured glass surface that Aaron
was spinning from behind, dressed in an Uncle Sam
costume. When the audience's curiosity was peaked
the glass shattered and exposed the texture of
the flag. Waves on the red suggested a sea of blood
while the blue was a thick layer of drips suggesting
tears and the white stripes were lined with white pill
bottles with skulls on them. The piece now sits
atop Aaron's dead Volvo wagon.
Aaron Jones has also studied Blacksmithing and
metal fabrication for 3 years and offers a variety
of scultpural and functional products and services.
After Goddard College closed he left Veromont and
recorded his second album. Evilove turned out to be
a radical shift from the first, probably to show
his divercity and growth. With pop-esque hooks and
styles from the past present and future Dievolve
started to make its vision clearer.
