    Artist description
CellBlock12… Cell… Block… 12… Hmmm… What does this mean? Who is this? ??? Well, the formally educated may believe it's the twelfth block of a cell… Or, to others it may look like the name of a horror slasher flick... Maybe a few think it sounds like some new band name containing angry young men… To each his own. To be honest, the listener is the true judge as to what the name really means. But, get prepared… CellBlock12 has come out of nowhere to place their fresh slab of music on the scene. Hailing from Shell Rock, Iowa, the band's sound combines new metal, with a dash of hard-core, punk, and rap. This is a band that was collectively forged from it's member's musical talents, human emotions, and life's daily situations. CB12 was spawned from several jams guitarist Tom Ogle and drummer Dan Kluiter started back in Jun '00. Then with the addition of vocalist Josh Miller in Oct '00 and finally bassist John Jungblut in May '01, the band became complete. A close knit gang that can read each other like a book and play like a train wreck. Writing uncompromising original music has instilled this band's solid foundation. From positive issues to negative ones, it doesn't really matter to this band. Never forcing to write a song, creativity simply unfolds naturally - without stress. A resolution of "everyone is treated equal" the band holds high. The band and it's music speaks for itself and is real - the facts stand. With songs about love, hate, relationships gone bad, abuse, religion, confusion, and just not fitting in, singer Josh Miller has hit way too close to home with his lyrics. Spewing energy and power, Josh is known to compel audiences to pay attention, listen, and go completely nuts. The pace motoring behind CB12 is drummer Dan Kluiter, whose tight-as-hell pummeling of his set feeds the audience what they crave. Then bassist John Jungblut delivers a healthy industrial dose of low-tone that is filtered through his own unique blend of distortion/wah effects. As if all that was enough, the punishing grinding style of guitarist Tom Ogle is then dumped onto the music like gasoline. As far as naming actual influences, Tom simply states, "CellBlock12 is everything we have ever heard, touched, or seen from music to personal life experience; we are ourselves." CellBlock12... The name just seemed to fit like a glove from the start. The members of the band saw a cable series on the The Fox Family Channel called "Scariest Places on Earth" back in October, 2000. The show featured a haunted prison cell block named "Cell Block 12" located in England. Thus, CellBlock12 became the name of the band. Then the look of the band started to evolve into something too ludicrous to mention… But obviously, the music has always been pushed ahead of "a name" and/or "a look". From the balls-out guitar coupled with a sincere melodic vocal in "Darkness and Beyond" to the sludge-structure and soulful vibe of "Marked for Life", you can tell CB12 has focused idealism with a mixture of styles. Even the razor sharp vocal rap of "Self Destruct" makes you want to get up and join in on the chorus "…and now I self destruct…" - or start throwing a fit! The band lures the listener in and pushes the victim over the cliff with relentless reality driven truth. Together, CellBlock12 is a monster machine spinning out of control and headed your way to drop the block!
