Robin (guitar, vocals) and Leslie (voice) first met as ninth graders in the band hall in Houston Texas. Robin played marching drums and Leslie was second chair clarinet. They threw out the band instruments in favor of a PA and Marshall amps. Migrated to Hollywood and formed Majenta Jets. Made friends with recording engineers and orchestral college students as well as professionals in the film industry. Result: Produced a self-titled CD MAJENTA JETS and shot a commercial for Sam Goody music stores and band web site airing now in Los Angeles on MTV and VH1.

(Excerpt from ZYZZXX MAGAZINE)Jen: Bring it back! Bring it back! What was your inspiration for picking up the guitar and wanting to play lead? Robin: Seeing people play on the Midnight Special, right before there was any MTV. They'd have these Don Kirshner rock concerts at night and I'd see people playing lead guitar and I was just in love with it. But before that, I was in love with songwriting because I loved the Beatles. The harmony and structure of a song, I used to analyze it as a small child. [I'd be like] how did they write that? How do these harmonies all work together? It would fascinate me. Then I got into lead playing because, I thought, I see all these men doing it so why aren't there any women doing it - I could do it too, if I just try hard enough.Jen: Now, about our equipment being stolen. I know you have some advise for other bands on this subject... Leslie: My main advise is to take pictures of all you equipment and engrave something like your license number or your birthday on it. Robin: Get all the serial numbers off of your equipment. Leslie: It's a pain in the ass , but we wish that we had thought of that when our equipment was stolen. I mean, thank God we got all of it back. Robin: Well...almost all of it. Jen: You guys were so lucky! Leslie: I always tell people that Robin and I were like Cagney and Lacy. Robin: We were totally Cagney and Lacy! We'd joke about it - I'd go "Conference Christine." Actually, I'm Christine. I'm the blond. Leslie: No, you're Cagney.Robin: Yeah, I'm Christine Cagney. You're the one with the husband, I'm the one with the alcoholic father. Leslie: Ok. You can have that. We even went into a sex shop across the street from our rehearsal hall. A sleazy one. Not like the Pleasure Chest - like, really gross. Robin: They had a bird's eye view of our rehearsal studio. The person that robbed us had to have taken all of our stuff to the street and taken off with it. There is no back alley. So we went over to the sex shop and started talking to the people working there and they were actually very nice! We found out - after the guy that robbed us was arrested - it took him three trips to clean us out. The jerk was a drummer rehearsing next door to us. Another musician! Jen: One of my favorite songs on the album is "(Throwing Myself The) Grand Canyon" but I have to say that the office favorite - believe me, the people in my office have heard this album over and over and over and over - is definitely "Bi." A co-worker of mine wanted me to ask you if the inspiration behind it is a sort of crack on the whole new trend that being bisexual is cool and sheik or is it just a friend that it is about.Robin: It's both actually. It's kind of tongue and cheek making fun of the sheikness of being bisexual now. I mean, it seems like every teenage girl that I know is bisexual -- and where were they when I was in highschool?! It is so out there now because you see it on television, you have role models, you have gay characters on sitcoms. The song came about because I have a friend who is bisexual and she is very open about it. I was riding in her van with her one day and I was feeling a little sorry for myself for being single and she said something to the effect that if you swing both ways, you would double your chances. She was just joking and I thought that was so hilarious, and I got the idea for the song.Jen: Well, you definitely have our office whistling it! It's just such a catchy tune. Robin: My mother, [who is devout Mormon], was like (in a southern accent), "Why did you have to go and write a song about that? Couldn't you have written something a little sweeter? Oh, my goodness, how am I going to explain this to the ladies at the church?" But the funny thing is, she calls me up one day and says, "Wouldn't you know it, that's the song I'm always humming to myself."Jen: And what about my fave, "(Throwing Myself In The) Grand Canyon." What is that about?Leslie: It is basically about a person or persons who suck the energy and life out of you. I knew someone at one point who was a self-proclaimed vampire - she literally wanted me to believe that she was a vampire. Upon that, I said over the phone [ to her] "If you're a vampire, turn into a bat and fly over here." I didn't believe it of course but I felt as if I were fighting for my soul in some way. I was trying to keep myself from falling into a trap. (SONGWRITERS MONTHLY)An interview with actress LARA PARKER (a.k.a. ANGELIQUE)By: David Block Songwriter's Monthly: How do you feel that young musicians wrote about Angelique? Lara Parker: I was moved. They were barely born when Dark Shadows was on the air. It was amazing that they were able to effectively capture Angelique's plight. People who watch Dark Shadows today, can't experience as great impact as those people who watched it on ABC. The show was a product of its time. I was impressed with the song. I can appreciate the struggles the Majenta Jets went through to be a success because my son Rick Parker is a rock and roll musician. SM: Because your character was evil, did Dark Shadows fans harass you?LP: I could remember waiting on the subway platform and they saw me and they shrieked and ran away. And another time, I took my children caroling to an orphanage, the children all shrieked and ran out of the room. I was so surprised. Didn't they know that I just played a part? I think that people who used to watch daytime TV would sometimes confuse the actor with the role that they played. I used to get threatening phone calls. People would say, "you'd better leave Barnabas alone or we'll shoot you." I'd say, "I had nothing to do with it. I don't write the scripts. I just play the part."SM: How did you react to the threats?LP: I wasn't too upset because I was so young. I don't think I took the threats that seriously. If it happened to me now, it would frighten me a lot more. SM: Did you imagine that there would be Dark Shadows festivals and huge fan clubs 30 years later?LP: No. At first, I wasn't sure that people would ever see the show again when it went off the air. Now, it's seen all over the world (on the SCI-FI CHANNEL). There are more fans now than when it was on the network.(GO TO www.majentajets.com for MORE REVIEWS AND NEWS)
