Artist History
When Jory Nash was 8 years old his parents took him to see Pete Seeger at Toronto’s Massey Hall. Two years later the family went to see Gord Lightfoot play, and the musical seed was firmly planted. A love of traditional Appalachian balladry and the sounds of acoustic instruments like mandolin, acoustic guitar and dobro steered Jory towards train songs, work songs, gospel, bluegrass, and perhaps most importantly, other folk-influenced singer-songwriters. This musical base, coupled with an affection for complexity in lyrical phrasings and ideas have helped in developing Jory’s sound. Add a dash of roots and country-rock, a spoonful of R & B, a pinch of jazz, a hint of mint and a soft yet resonant voice and the picture starts to become a little clearer |

Press Reviews
Jory’s debut CD “One Way Down” has sold over 1,000 copies independently, and has received strong airplay on over 100 folk radio programs across North America. It has received favourable reviews from Rock n’ Roots Magazine, Rambles Review, Music Matters Review, The Record & The Toronto Star On-Line Review"Nash's voice is rich & subtle-reminiscent of Paul Simon in his ability to alternate between soft phrasings and a stronger delivery on choruses. Top it off with catchy bluesy-folk tunes, and One Way Down is a promising indie debut."- CHRIS CARTER, TORONTO STAR CITYSEARCH"My reaction to (the CD) was something like, if real men write poetry, you, Jory, are the man. The poetry backed with such graceful melodies created a beautifully coherent album with the elegance greater than most debuts."- AMY JEFFRIES, DJ, WRTC-FM, HARTFORD, CT "Canadian singer songwriter Jory Nash makes his CD debut with One Way Down. It's a strong collection of self-penned material. Distinctively and mellifluously voiced, Nash's songs are attractive, hook-laden affairs, imaginatively arranged and performed with style."- DAVE WHITE, ROCK 'N REEL MAGAZINE (UK) |
