Artist History
In 1997 Stewart Marshall and Scott Armit met while looking for an aside to the rigors of the bagpipe band world. That's right, the bagpipe band world. Both have been competing and performing in bagpipe bands as snare drummers since early childhood. Finding that they shared a love for this traditional art as well as a penchent for a post-adolescent rock fantasy, they started playing guitar and writing songs together. After realizing that to get their songs heard they would need to form a band, they gathered up another bagpipe band junky Scott Miller on drumsand career philosopher Brad Herling on lead guitar. Together, the group was Haggis. Unfortunately the name Haggis was already taken by an Idahoan punk band (anarchy rules). The band changed their name to Fitless Cock (another Scottish food recipe), but after one band meeting they quickly dropped the Cock. Sadly Brad Herling left the band to pursue his indepedent musical stylings and philosophies.Liberated from the tedium of the formulatedfour-piece, the three amigos recharged their nowincreased musical roles. The result is acombination of rock and pop with generallyserious lyrics and intelligent song structure which is probably best described as CanadianHardcore (though when asked, none of them know what that means, and none of them are actually from Canada).Along with recording CDs in Woodshed Studios(also known as Scott Miller's basement), Fitless now happily play clubs in Cambridge and Somerville, like "TT The Bears" and the "Abbey Lounge"(favorite local), and are rumored to be considering crossing the river - *gasp*! |
