Artist History
One part expressionist, one part master musician, and one part powerhouse percussionist: Add a splash of “sass” and you have the ingredients that make up the potent cocktail called ELLIS. Fronted by a female bassist/vocalist with a flair for fashion that borders on eccentric, ELLIS puts forth an exciting array of edgy scorchers, smoky ballads, funky groovers and epic rockers. Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple) calls ELLIS the “trio of the moment…over the top, with a wide vocabulary of sounds, and an awesome voice. You can’t hide in a trio… and they deliver live.” (www.glennhughes.com)Though their musical boundaries are vast beyond definition, their focus on musical expression is razor sharp. The result is a musician’s band: Captivating, artistic and timeless. The depths of ELLIS go far beyond the platinum image of Stacey Ellis and her strong, “can-do-anything-with-them” vocals. Behind the face, bass and personality, ELLIS’ foundation lies in the hands of modern guitar hero Brett Ellis who brilliantly navigates a through a dozen or more sound-altering foot pedals in a single performance to create a whir of quirky, funky and dramatic impressions . For nearly a decade, the three members of ELLIS, including Bonzo-like drummer Mike McFarland, have led an expedition that’s brought both personal satisfaction and acclaim from media, peers and fans. The band’s latest release, BARSTOOL PERSPECTIVE, establishes ELLIS as a viable crowd pleaser. Radio-friendly pop groovers like Gas Haus, inspired by experiences at a funky, late-night coffee hang-out where ELLIS performs acoustics sets, and the album’s title track. Barstool Perspective, which appeals to collegiates who spread their time evenly between attending classes and Irish pubs, set the pace. Friend O’Mine suggests wearing one’s shoes on the wrong feet for an interesting walk home. ELLIS recently recorded a duet with Glenn Hughes, which will be released later this year. The band has played for thousands at Southern California gigs like Superbowl XXXII events, tourist attractions and Hollywood venues. Still, the trio prefers intimate clubs and interaction with small crowds. “If we can blow one mind each time we’re heard, we’re happy. And if we have to take the world one-by-one, we eventually will,” said Stacey Ellis.BARTSTOOL PERSPECTIVE, as well as the band’s first album, IN FOR THE KILL, and Brett Ellis’ two solo, Spanish guitar albums, CLASSICAL GUITAR COMPOSITIONS BY FERNANDO SOR, Vols. 1 and 2, are available online at www.EllisMusic.com. Merchandise also may be purchased by writing to ELLIS at PO Box 15396, San Diego, CA 92020 or E-mailing the band at EllisMusic@worldnet.att.net.# # # # |
