Press Reviews
EYE TO EYE-WAYNE EDWARDS (INDEPENDENT)It's a pity that the production of this CD is sounding a bit average, because musically it all sounds very sensational. The CD of WAYNE EWARDS contains some fantastic pure 80s AOR/Melodic Rocksongs that have influences from acts like JOURNEY, SURVIVOR, FOREIGNER, ALIAS and UFO. Wayne comes out of Tennessee and plays guitars on the album, while singer Todd Turner did the vocals (and boy he can really sing very well!). The album is not the official release, but just a sneak preview of things to come, as it will eventually develop into a full-length concept CD release in the near future. For now, the 7 tracks of the CDR show the capabilities of Wayne and company. The first song, "Eye to eye", is a good progressive melodic rocker with a very catchy chorus. Basically we're into AOR HEAVEN on the next track "Call me". This song has some lovely keyboards (a la FOREIGNER) and is a fantastic pure 80s typed midtempo AOR tune in the veins of ALIAS, BAD ENGLISH and JOURNEY. The only negative point I have to made here is the production which just isn't that good, but the song itself really is a killer AOR tune. Next track "Ice cold" captures the classic 80s melodic rocksound in all forms, because this is a lovely uptempo hookladen AOR rocker. "Midnight lady" is another AOR killer, this one is reminding me of acts like UFO, STRATUS, LITTERER and RAGE (UK). "Breakdown" follows and is yet another stunning AOR rocker in the style of SURVIVOR/LUCIFER'S FRIEND. The last two songs are the only fillers on the record, because "Setting sail" and "Wayne Edwards Live" are both weak instrumentals that fail to succeed the high quality of the first 5 AOR tunes. If the production would be better, than this CD could've easily been one of the best independent records out there at the moment. I can't wait to hear more of Wayne Edwards and can only hope for a better production on the full-length CD next time, because then we can launch this guy as the latest AOR sensation. The first release is titled 'G5 summit' and contains 15 songs and a couple guitarists we already have featured in Strutter'zine, such as Wayne Edwards and Mark B. Schuster. These guitarists can really play some great music and that can also be heard on this compilation CD for which they provided each 3 of their songs. The other 3 guitarists are Jim Reindel, Adam Puchalski and Chris Hattingh who all can also play their guitar very well. Fans of instrumental (there are also some vocal tracks on the CD) guitar hard rock a la JASON BECKER, MICHAEL SCHENKER, MALMSTEEN, JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI etc. really need to check out this compilation of 5 guitarists from the new generation of guitarplayers.
