With spaced and drifting guitar rock that spreads out like a sunset, bringing to
mind bands like Scenic, Friends of the Library paint a somber picture of an
instrumental America. This is driving and passionate, spread out between the
oceans, lanscapes, as music. Sometimes vocals whisper in, bringing the
sound around to a slo-core feel. Picture Low or Cediene at their slower
moments. There're hints of some Dirty Three dynamics going on, too, with the
guitar getting almost as passionate as Warren Ellis' violin. Sad, poetic pictures
of a normal life are hidden in the lyrics, and the drums hit liek minimal
punctuation between sentences: it's moody and moving and heart-breaking.
This music hits like the last rays of sun on a summer's eve, but it's still as
sparse and as cool as the first breath of snow.
