Artist History
Dead Inside the Chrysalis- The future is a dead scene.
With a forthcoming album being produced by red-hot producer Lamar Lowder (Jerk, Powerman 5000), an onslaught of insanely hyper-active live shows complete with bikini clad gun-toting monster girls, a striking visual aesthetic and a dedicated cult following anticipating the band's every move, its no wonder why Sydney based shock rockers, Dead Inside the Chrysalis are feeling the buzz of excitement u get when you sense you're on the verge of something big.
Manek Deboto, vocalist and main song-writer for the other-worldly super-group
conceptualizes the strange origins of the band's manifesto…
"I have become obsessed or perhaps possessed with the realization that DITC
is to be no less than the greatest 21st Century-dark-core-psychotronic-shock-punk-rock outfit in the freeekin' universe. And if that means building our
own universe to do it than so be it. Who can argue with u when you're the ruler
of your own fuckin' universe?"
DITC's big bang is about to happen. The core members of the group, Manek Deboto (vocals), Clark Bent (guitar, computer nerd), the Organ Donor (bass) and R (drums) have an explosive dynamic and larger than life scope revealed in their current jam of sound, vision and attitude that supply the nexus for the formation of a new scene to happen. The new scene is a sub-culture DITC dubbed 'the Electricult'.
"Since the beginning DITC was conceived to be something more than your average band of musicians." Manek said. "We have always been interested in being involved with all aspects of art and entertainment. I think a band is the best way to combine all the mediums because so many things can be inspired and spring from it. It’s a strong way to manifest change in people. All these things r the basis for our sub-culture."
The alternate reality DITC are creating is the fused wreckage from pop-culture mutated into twisted, bizarre forms. It’s something that a lot of people are relating to. There's a freak surge rising up from the underground and DITC is a super-magnet for all that it brings. "We’re gonna externalize the freak streak in people and lead the way for the Mutant Generation." Manek said.
DITC's eagerly anticipated new album tentatively titled ‘the Humanoid Expansion-Pack’ being produced by Lamar Lowder hot on the heals of working with renowned producer Sean Bevan (NIN, Marilyn Manson) is near completion.
"Lamar's work with DITC has been awesome. He has provided the focus we needed to get us on our way, helping pump DITC's sound to maximum proportions. The album is going to be our key element for our ascension into the public eye." Manek said.
The album is a chemically induced spill of dark-core punk riffs, steroid-induced death-disco drumming that could only have been created using a power glove, Numanesque fuzz-synth drones, and super-deranged vocals. These anthems for Armageddon are armed with enough ammunition to give you a total spaz-attack. The sound has been described as a hybrid of Marilyn Manson, Orgy, Soundgarden and Rob Zombie but uniquely DITC.
Writing a DITC track is as Manek explains it, "a focus on pop sensibilities. The tracks that inspire me to write are those ones that get stuck in my head and make me go 'Gee-Whiz! I know why I'm here and what I got to do!' Those songs have a strong hook in them and a theme that charges your soul. I just try to reflect that to get what we're trying to say across but put a definitive DITC spin on it."
Its that process that has spawned tracks such as the anarchic power anthem, 'Future Shock', nu-wave virtual love song, 'Neon' and the band's first single, 'the Invisible'. The perfect track to grasp more followers in the alien hand of DITC with its mind warping abilities.
A video-clip for the single has been shot. It will provide people with an introduction to the band's freakish world. Manek describes the clip as "a neon nightmare set in limbo with a load of sub-conscious wreckage thrown in for good measure. It was inspired by Freddy Kruegar, Troma, Evil Dead, the 80’s, and top 40 pop-clips at the moment. I won't tell u anymore. Best u see it for yourself and leave it to your 3rd eye to discover."
In the current wave of retro rock rock'n'roll idealism and disposable pop how do DITC fit into the scheme of things?
"We're a punk-rock band who's infiltrating the mainstream. Our effects on the world of pop will be much like a toxic spill at a fun-park. Our radioactivity is going to infect and mutate a lot of people. We're the opposite of an exorcism- we possess Linda Blairs. Oh yeah and we're building a construct that will bring about the formation of Earth 2.0 but that is a tale for another time and place."
What of the band's freakish image?
Manek tells it, "I get bored by bands who look like my next door neighbours. I don't want to see a band that looks like everyone else. I want to see something alien and new. Those elements r the only things that inspire me and make me feel alive. I know a lot of people feel there's a lack of interesting looking bands out there. We're gonna help change that. Our current inception is a melding of retro-futuristic raver-ware, glam and punk wearing enough electrical/ cloth tape to lead a fashion war. Tape is the new safety pin. It’s a big part of our Electricult fashion movement. We’re an action-packed 21st Century sci-fi freak show."
"I mean we're not the first band to get up and put on a show wearing make-up and an odd sense of fashion but we're here to make sure that aspect of rock doesn't die. Besides that we're having too much fun making a spectacle of ourselves. And that's pretty much what its about, making a spectacle of ourselves for people to spaz-out to and have fuckin’ great time. And hopefully inspire others to get on the bandwagon."
Zeroing in on the weirdness of pop culture and limitations of reality, DITC blur the line between the two forming an avenue for the inspiration of future rebels.
"Every mutant freak like us knows the fear and realities of being beaten up, harassed or worse for what they look like, the fashion they wear and the things they're into. Just like every freak who dares step out of their door looking like they do know to say, 'Fuck it! This is who I am, I won't let them change me.'" Manek said.
Well the freaks are out in force in the world of DITC... Manek resticks a piece of electrical tape down on his pants and continues, "This is our chance to feel comfortable being who we are, Its time to push the boundaries and be a trendsetter. It may just appear to be a theatrical gimmick to some but to those who know better it’s more than that. Its about taking a stance against those who fear us and wanna wipe us off the face of the planet and saying, "Fuck you! I'm weird. So what? Get a clone and go fuck yourself!"
The group's name envisions their philosophy. DITC is a metaphor for the worlds people build themselves into. The chrysalis represents society's constant pressure on individuals to conform and the barriers of limitations set on people. Whether they do it to themselves or other people do it to them. You can either break through the barrier and become that which you desire to
be or u can exist in a state of perpetual normality. Its up to u. So death in this case isn't about the physical act its about not living the life you have and that's what DITC reacts against by doing what they've always dreamed. "Break through the barriers... release your freak!" Manek yells.
DITC invite you to join their freak revolution. Super-charge yourself. Its time to hyper-activate. Convert yourself into DITC's Electricult.
