Artist History
It has been a long time since Chicago has seen a true Rock band. Rock, as it was originally defined, has branched off to many different sub-genres while theoriginal Rock slips away. Sober Dozi strives to bring that Rock music back tothe heart of America. With their screaming guitar solos, intricate songwriting, moving lyrics, driving bass lines, pounding drum licks, and that traditional, bad-ass Rock'N' Roll attitude, Sober Dozi is determined to become today's answer in a forgotten music scene.
Sober Dozi started out as three mutual friends in May of 2000, Chris Vitale on rhythm guitar, Lou Parrini on lead guitar and Greg Harville at lead vocals. The three young men began churning out hit songs almost immediately. Each had varied experience in other bands before Sober Dozi and they hit it off perfectly both on a musical and personal level. They were soon joined by Brian Snyder on drums and Steve (???) on bass and began playing the Chicagoland area. Winter came when Steve and Brian decided to part in order to persue other interests. They were replaced shortly by Dan (???) and Tommy English who soon left the band themselves in April of 2001.
Enter Bill Larimore and Scott Mueller. This dynamic duo, the rockin' rhythm section of the band, was exactly what the three founding members of Sober Dozi had been looking for. Scott's "take-no-prisoners" attitude on drums gave a refreshing jolt to all their originally written songs. Scott Mueller had extensive experience in other bands such as (??) and (???) and Bill Larimore had played both drums and bass for a good part of his life. Together the five members quickly established a truly original groove of their own, rivaling that of bands like Creed and Fuel.
Each of the members, while unique in their playing style have very distinguishing characteristics. The stage presence of Greg Harville is not to be missed. Greg's heartfelt lyrics poured out in rich baritone vocality, sparkle and shine almost tangibly. The complex melody yet seemly simple tune carries with you, well into the rest of your day, if not days. Chris Vitale on rhythm guitar is an unsurpassed songwriter. With his fascinating use of intricate chord progressions, one would listen with and almost wide-eyed amazement at how Chris brings each song together with an unpredictable change of form, style and sound. Anyone with an ear for Rock music knows that a song wouldn't be complete without a screaming guitar solo, and Lou Parrini more than fits that bill. His soulful licks are his own personal blend of melody and harmony, compared often to both Santana and Van Halen. Looking out in the crowd during a show one can almost inevitably see the legions of fans playing "air-guitar" along with Lou during every song. The driving bass behind Sober Dozi is Bill Larimore. Bill has amazed even the members of Sober Dozi themselves with his ability to learn over thirty songs in under five days. His pulsing, throbbing, bass lines drive each song to it's climax, back down to a dull roar, and pound their way into the head of every listener thrashing their head to their hard-core songs. Scott Mueller on drums is more than the backbone of the band. His hands and feet fly past with such intricate precision that you'd think the man was a machine. The only thing that gives him away is the thoroughly drenched t-shirt after the show, where you can see how he has taken the wheel and driven the band past its breaking point, past its highest level, to where you can almost see Scott transcend to a higher musical plane, his fantastic beats almost impossible to duplicate to the average human.
Sober Dozi will rock you, Sober Dozi will roll you, Sober Dozi will take you where you've never been before and bring you back with a smack! Sober Dozi is a Rock band you don't ever want to miss.
