Group Members
The band was born in April 1999 when songwriter Nigel Clothier started working with experienced record producer Mark Daghorn. We are looking to build on the success of our debut album Hiya with a new release on the Positive Records label scheduled for early 2004. With Anthony Kempster now our lead singer, producer Mark Daghorn is mixing the record ready for release in late January. Mark will be mixing the album on the Focusrite console Phil Spector recorded Starsailor on, before that rather unfortunate shooting incident! With ten sparkling new songs by Nigel Clothier, the new album, entitled Radiocity, is expected to take the band to new heights of artistic and commercial success.
Featured on the album are Dave Bronze (bass) and Pete Thompson (drums). Dave plays for Eric Clapton on a regular basis, as well as Eric Bibb, and has played for Robin Trower, Paul Carrack, The Hamsters, David Gilmour, etc. Pete currently plays for Eric Bibb and has played for Robert Plant, Robin Trower, and Silverhead.
Both of them played on the Robin Trower album that Mark Daghorn worked on last year.

A lovely mixture of rock tunes, commercial pop, folk, ballad and even a little alternative…eleven potential number one hits here.Melanie Vilnis–Australian journalist with 15 years experience. After I heard the album the first time,I couldn’t get them out of my mind. That told me that there was something very special about this band and their music.Michael Allison–TheGlobalMuse.com
Really nice album, fusion of Brit pop & 80s sensibility.George Graham,WVIA Scranton,PA.We dont often say this, but Hiya by Sharp Practise is one of the BEST we have heard from hundreds of submissions to Amazing CDs!Randy Anagnostis,Amazing CDs
Hiyas music is pure, uncomplicated and positive.Sharp Practise is locked into such a repetitive and steady groove that it will be hard to miss or forget.Somnies Cyberspace-Canada.An atmospheric selection of songs with the emphasis on quality lyrical content.Steve Elliott,Olympic Radio.Nigel Clothier is one of the most talented up and coming musicians in the entire UK. The melodic rhythms, haunting lyrics and fantastic poetic prowess push this band to the forefront of todays music.Alex Abercrombie,Funky Rock News
If well played and well sung melodic music with some excellent lyrics is your tip then get out and buy the album…I cant recommend it too highly.Andy Vaughan,Cockney Latic fanzine. This is the making here,Hiya, for one of those pop(non-boy band)revolutions everyones waiting for. This is UK power pop,and should be handled in a super sad state-you will feel better having this touch the part of your brain that makes you joyous.May Wiseman,Score Magazine
When the last melodies of the twelfth track disappear, you will be surprised how easily you have befriended these songs and how many of them remain firmly rooted in your head.Olga Sladeckova,Pennyblack magazine
Restrained energy that bounces softly in light-hearted summertime fun.ISWM Indie Pick Of The Month,June 2001
I think this UK band has a lot of potential.Standout musical moments include the staggered vocal line on OK and the lovely piano work on Its Alright. My favorite track was the rocking Him or Me,which really picked up the pace and sounded a bit like Sparks.Jennifer Layton,Indie-Music.com
Nigel Clothiers talent for putting together an intelligent lyric seems to be matched by his ear for a hook…Sharp Practise is clearly a band to be admired and to keep an eye open for.Graham Vine–H&A Magazine. The band created songs with a cool melody and feeling-songs I like listening to again and again.Ralph,Medazzarock–Switzerland
In the tradition of storytelling lyrics,Sharp Practise has a knack of writing simple but memorable songs of life and love…this is one band that should,in time, get a lot more recognition.EDF,Phase9 Music Newsletter |
