Artist description
Jumprope's clean, guitar-oriented pop sound goes far deeper, musically, than the vast majority of bands today. Drawing on the rich harmony (an occasionally the rhythms) of 1960s bossa nova music, they form brief pop songs with surprising melodies. Featuring two lead vocalists and employing a variety of instruments (like vibraphone, piano, organ, and the occasional horn) in addition to the standard guitars, bass, and drums, the group is clearly ignoring commercial trends, and sounds all the better for it -- fresh and different. |

Press Reviews
"All about the infinite variations of jangly pop (with bossa nova tendencies)...reminiscent of timeless, magical autumn afternoons.... You will play this disc over and over again and love it like family." -Splendid- * "Sometimes all the kids want to do is pop. There's some Galaxie 500 in Jumprope, some Pastels, and plenty of weird chords that lend a ragged quirkiness to the Boston quartet's sound." -Alternative Press- * "The music skips along at a consistently wonderful pace, occasionally stopping to hit the ground before the next terrific moonbound leap...singer Cindy's vocals cutting a swath of beauty out of the lonely sky." -Popscene- * "pure pop heaven... Cindy's rich voice... fluid bass playing... clever guitar playing... the whole project is a goddess-send, and I could use a lot more." -Noise Queen- * "...with more than a hint of jazz and a nice female/male vocal mix, Jumprope keeps the music fresh... the kind of tunes strong enough to get Jumprope off the college circuit and into the big leagues. -Rockpile- * "Pop kids of the world unite! Jumprope ... exemplifies the brave new pop... " -BigO- |
