Artist History
Although Column "C" has an extensive history of trials and tribulations, I'll try to sum it up in a short point-form event list: *Nov.1998-Luc, Josh, Tyson and Celeste are all in the same acting class in Walnut Grove high school. Josh, Luc and Tyson start talking about how cool it would be to get together and jam. All three were interested in starting a punk band. Celeste overheard the conversation and asked if she could come along too. Although they all thought it would be weird to have a sax in a punk band, being nice fellows, they all said yes. *The very first time they played together, they wrote two songs: "Walnut Grove" and "Sax Toy". *All four members decided to make the band a "side-project" with no expectations or commitment. They still considerred themselves to be punk, with a sax. They semi-decided on the name "The Skunx" because they were ska and punk. *January, 1999-The holidays go past and the band keeps getting progressively more committed, and better. There is a unanimous decision to try to become a ska band, rather than punk, however, it was felt they needed another horn player. *Luc says "hey, I know a girl at school named Karina, I think she plays something". So Luc asks Karina if she wants to play in a ska band, and she was like "I play the french horn and violin, but I guess I can play trombone..." and with that, Karina became the band's trombone player! *The band'd name finally gets created! Everybody thought "The Skunx" was a stupid name. Through the rantings of many other stupid names, Lucas blurts out: "maybe we should call ourselves Column "C", cause like, column a is punk, and column b is ska, so we're like, a mix of the two, which makes us Column "C", what do you guys think?" It was either the fact that they couldn't come up with anything else, or they were just fed up arguing amonst themselves, (or a mix of the two), but by the end of the night all five members voted in the name. *Column "C" somehow lands a few shows during the summer of 1999. They are all awful performances. The band is mocked and belittled by others, and themselves. The fan base consists of Josh's parents. The shows usually have about four orriginal songs in between horn-less MXPX/GOB/GOLDFINGER cover songs. yeah, it's exactly what you're picturing.... *During the summer Tyson and Karina go away, so JASON CROCKFORD fills in at drums, and A.J. MACKNEE goes in for trombone. They played a show with this lineup, it was ok, I guess. *After playing an outdoor show at Jason's birthday, the band takes a long practice break, playing no shows for many months....probably a good thing. *Spring, 2000- Column "C" somehow makes it into the annual B.O.B. festival. Somehow, someway, the band puts together a good show and (drum roll please) wins the competition! Yeah! *And with that, Column "C" has flourished into what they are today. There, that about covers it. |
