Artist History
1992, WAS THE YEAR MANY CELEBRATED THE FIVE HUNDRED YEARS CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS DISCOVERED THE AMERICAN CONTINENT. THAT WAS ALSO THE YEAR, A NEW BREATH OF FRESH AIR FIRST WAVED IN THE VAST UNDERGROUND PANORAMA, A DEATH/DOOM METAL BAND NAMED REQUIEM.IN 1994, AFTER KNOWING THAT ALREADY EXISTED ANOTHER BAND WITH THE SAME NAME, THEY DECIDED TO CALL THEMSELVES REQUIEM LAUS WHICH MEANS IN ENGLISH, PRAISED REST. THIS NAME IS A HUMBLE HOMAGE TO THE GREAT CLASSICAL COMPOSITOR, WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART, SPECIALLY HIS GREAT WORK, REQUIEM.DURING THE MANY YEARS OF THEIR EXISTENCE, SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS HAVE IMMERGED IN THIS PROJECT, LIKE THE GUITAR PLAYER BRUNO SOUSA, AND THE BASS GUITARS, TONY FIGUEIRA AND ÓSCAR PEREIRA. THEIR PASSAGE THROUGH REQUIEM LAUS, LEAVE US ONLY WITH A GREAT THANKS AND RESPECT FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION,94 WAS ALSO ENLIGHTENED BY THE RELEASE OF THE FIRST DEMO TAPE, “ LIFE FADING EXISTENCE “, WHICH CAN BE COMPARED TO A ROUGH DIAMOND BEFORE IT GETS POLISHED AND GIVEN A VALOUR.THEIR TECHNIC AND MUSICAL QUALITY PROPERLY RELATED TO THEIR SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE, MADE THIS DEMO A TARGET TO A VAST RANGE OF POSITIVE REVIEWS THROUGH THE NACIONAL UNDERGROUND.AFTER MANY SUN SETS, CAME 96… YEAR IN WHICH WAS LAUNCHED THEIR SECOND DEMO TAPE, “ FOR THE ONES WHO DIED “. IN THIS DEMO ONE CAN HEAR A GREATER MUSICAL EVOLUTION. TO ENHANCE THEIR SOUND QUALITY, THE DEMO WAS RECORDED IN REC & ROLL STUDIO ( ONE OF THE BEST, IF NOT THE BEST METAL STUDIO HERE IN PORTUGAL ), LOCATED IN PORTO AND PRODUCED BY LUÍS BARROS, TARANTULA’S DRUMMER.CONSEQUENTLY, IN A NATIONAL AND ALSO INTERNATIONAL LEVEL, A VAST AMMOUNT OF POSITIVE REVIEWS ERUPTED, DESCRIBING THEIR EVOLUTION, EXCELENCE AND COMPETENCE…AFTER THEIR GENESIS UNTIL THE PRESENT MOMENT, THEY HAVE PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL K7 AND CD COMPILATUIONS ( FROM HERE TO NOWHERE WITH THE THEME REQUIEM LAUS; ROCK GAR WITH THE THEME AURAL EMISSION; HYPERMETAL WITH THE THEME ALWAYS TOGETHER ).THE CELESTIAL PLENITUDE ONLY GAVE REQUIEM LAUS A GREATER MUSICAL INSPIRATION, WHICH IS REENFORCED BY JORGE CASTRO’S LYRICS, AND BY ANA AGUILAR’S HYPER IMAGINATION SEEN IN HER CREATIONS, THE GROUP’S LOGO . AT THE PRESENT TIME, REQUIEM LAUS is MIGUEL FREITAS ON VOCALS AND GUITAR, MARCELO FREITAS ON DRUMS, RICARDO ALVES ON BASS AND DANIEL PEREIRA ON GUITAR . ALTHOUGH, ONE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TIME WILL BRING, NEW SONGS ARE BEEN CREATED WHICH DISPLAYS GREAT MELODIC LINES BUT ALSO A GREATER POWER IN SIGN THAT THE GOOD OLD MELODIC DEATH - METAL IS STILL CRUSHING ALL THE GROUP MEMBERS SOULS. NEW INLUENCES AND NEW MEMBERS MAY APPEAR, BUT THAT ONLY WILL BRING THEIR MESSAGE TO A HIGHER EXTREME… BUT THEN THE YEAR 2000 BROUGHT THE BAND ANOTHER SURPRISE THEY WOULD LOOSE THEIR KEYBOARD PLAYER , BUT THAT I MUST ASHURE YOU IS NOT FELT IN THE NEW SONGS FOR THEY ARE HARDER AND AS EVERYBODY THAT HAS LISTENED TO THE BAND SAID " REQUIEM LAUS IS BETTER THAN EVER AND SHOULD GO FAR " , in the end of 2001 the bass player Ricardo Fernandes left the band , now the band has found a replecement for the job , and things are going smoodly as ever , the band has new projects and shows for the year 2002 , keep and eye for them ! |
