Press Reviews
Lo-Fi Pioneers Acid-groove-rock. If only Joan Baez had a fuzz box and whammy bar, she'd sound just like the Lo-fi Pioneers. At least that's what the Lo-Fi Pioneers think. Musically speaking, however, blues -- rock 'n roll's truest progenitor -- seems more like the band's musical anchor than folk. This foundation gives the Pioneers' songs a solid groove of rhythm, with Josh Lyttle's sax contributing a thread of jazz to the mix and Rich Wiley's mellowed tenor resting nice and easy on the ears. Lyrics-wise, the Lo-Fi Pioneers play from the heart with sentimental but not sappy themes of genuine yearning. They sound pretty darned good, bein' lo-fi and all. -- Dylan Roberts Digital City/ San Diego |
