Artist History
Dr. John Kline has worn the many hats of scientist, statistician, computer technician, therapist, professor, composer, recording engineer, producer, writer, songwriter, and guitar virtuoso. What does John have to say about this?; "I feel like Buckaroo Banzai."
His music traverses styles from cool and hot jazz fusion, to country, shred metal, rock, funk, celtic, classical, and vocal ballads. "My favorite players have always been eclectic and creative ones that combine the best of all genres." Because of John’s versatility as session player and side man, John has been described John as a sort of musical "chameleon." John says he’s "more like a chameleon on paisley."
Upon receiving an M.A. in experimental psychology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, John undertook studies for his Ph.D. at the University of Arizona in Tucson. The rigors of graduate school and his subsequent professional life led John to put music on the back burner, while he moved about the country as an academic gypsy, i.e. postdoctoral fellow, and assistant professor of psychology. He has lived at the four corners of the continental U.S., as well as in the heartland. Ironically, John originally moved to Tallahassee FL in order to take an academic position, and the warm and vibrant music community in Tallahassee has brought him full circle back to music.
John routinely made digital recordings of new compositions and songs over the last four years that he has been in Tallahassee. These recordings have culminated in material for three albums that he plans to release over the next two years. John is a regular at Tallahassee's "Salty Dawg Pub Famous Acoustic Jam."
John currently plays live with the Jay Wells Band, a Florida panhandle rock / dance / party band. "This band is the most fun that I’ve had with my clothes on. Jay, Chas Millican, Chuck Finch, and Jeh Howell are great players and a great bunch of guys.. They rock!!" The Jay Wells Band can be seen a several local Tallahassee venues, including Paradise Grill and Bar. The band has finished recording a demo, and tracks are available at mp3.com
