Artist History
Frances Mai-Ling is a unique Asian-American pianist, performer and composer; always treading forward in new territory...always learning...studying.. expanding her music horizons. She started her stage career at 10 days old with her parents established magic show, in which they traveled many parts of the world … but eventually she would choose music over magic.
Fast forward 14 years ... In 1991 she put together a self-produced, self-recorded tape recording of four Mozart Sonatas in time for the celebration of Mozart Bicentennial death. In 2000, she released her first recording, ‘oneandahalf’ in ten years. Since then, Mai-Ling has released: universoulwomanvolumeone, universoulwomanvolumetwo, awakening, ragtime girl, Tempest2001: original music score, Taming of the Shrew: original music score and No Passing Zone on her own label doesitreallymatter?. Mai-ling has just complete her 10th self-released cd entitled, Best Kept Secret, featuring music she has scored for four theatre productions: Evil Little Thoughts [1996]; Tempest2001:A Visionary Comedy [2001]; Taming of the Shrew [2002], and The Miser [2002]. She recently provided original music for a small original production of skits and vignettes entitled ‘My Funny Valentine‘ [2003]. Her music was also featured in the independent film 'Burning Dogs' [2002].
Mai-Ling skills are from a classically trained background and has the ability to create music with just enough inspiration for any setting. She is a published composer, poet and artists and belongs to ASCAP.
Mai-Ling's cd's are available online thru her website, Awarestore.com, selected Barnes and Nobles and Borders, as well at her shows. For a more extensive biography, music, information of upcoming shows, projects, releases, visit her at
